August 13, 20205 yr This one is kinda old. He announced a new weather engine in 28.7 for the next x-plane and how it is gonna work.

LR potential market (not aware of the current numbers): A) has a little to do with MSFS since x-plane desktop is trageted for pro and companies to use, msfs is not. B)MSFS is windows PC and Xbox only. X-plane is native in windows, mac, linux, and almost every mobile on the world. In fact Desktop X-plane shares about 75%-80% of the code with mobile and no reason for it to change in Vulkan which is multi-platform too. Edited August 13, 20205 yr by mtaxp
August 13, 20205 yr Nobody expect Austin and 5 users care about rotational inverse blade theory. I downloaded a free trial of X-Plane last year. Tried it. Deleted it. X-Plane will become another niche product.

Are there any numbers how big their revenue is compared to the entertainment branch? Since the massive influx of P3D/FSX converts in the past 2-4 years, I am not sure private users are as irrelevant as depicted. 1 hour ago, mtaxp said: B)MSFS is windows PC and Xbox only. However you should count smart-phones as x-plane supports them, those probably have a huge revenue too. Edited August 13, 20205 yr by mtaxp

Everyone knows it can't be a real flight sim unless it runs on a smart phone. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Which is again, just like that other guy before, has nothing to do with what I said. Keep going and entertaining!

Keep going and entertaining! It's just that so many XPers look down on MSFS as a toy compared to their sim, designed for professionals. Seeing it getting released on mobile devices kind of doesn't fit in that picture. Just the usual "my toy is better" battle. Edited August 13, 20205 yr by tweekz Happy with MSFS 🙂 home simming evolved
August 13, 20205 yr This kind of bickering is pointless and childish. I am not a fan of XP for purely subjective reasons, but I have huge respect for Austin. I may not prefer his sim, but I have learned a lot from his talks over the years. He is hugely passionate about the science of flight and is therefore one of the most interesting, if not the most interesting characters in our industry. But XP is a passion project of him and only Austin will ever understand why he makes certain decisions. He really isn't interested in what you think of XP , or what add-ons are available for XP or what controllers are available for XP, - and he is clearly dismissive of competition which stems from his own belief in his product. Nothing wrong with that. It's admirable. I think if XP only appealed to purists who only see things things the way he sees things, he'd be happy with that. He has enough commercial income off XP anyway. He really is not interested in little Jonny with his bedroom PC and a copy of XP. Edited August 13, 20205 yr by ErichB

August 13, 20205 yr Anyway back to original topic, next x-plane is CONFIRMED to have a new weather engine (and weather rednering) and new scenery (working with an external company/easter european free lancers.). We should all just wait until Vulkan is stable, they already stated that behind the scenes stuff for next x-plane will be unleashed after, most of LR are not working on Vulkan, it's only sidney and ben. It would be nice to finally aee what the others have been doing all this time. Edited August 13, 20205 yr by mtaxp
August 13, 20205 yr Just now, mtaxp said: new scenery (working with an external company) Unless the company is Google and using their map data, it's all a bit of a busted flush.
