I don't recall seeing AI aircraft vectored through mountains. 😄 I'm beginning to suspect all that dancing around while trying to get vectored for landing is actually nothing but random numbers generated to give you course deviations and has nothing to do with anything actually going on in the sim. Never really thought about it that way, fluff...fodder for no good reason? hmm, sounds like a theory 🙂 (immersion gone very wrong) Edited August 15, 20205 yr by hangar Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons

I don't know why it should be so hard. But I haven't tried to do it myself yet, and I'm not interested enough in it to take on such a large project, especially at my age. I'd rather fly. But it is very telling that no one has done it yet. If it were as easy as it looks, anyone could do it, right? August 15, 20205 yr Larry have you tried Pilot2ATC...its been a few years and back when I was beta testing it could be kinda flaky but it was a step in the right direction. I'm assuming by now it must be working better. I'd be interested in your thoughts on how it's progressed? Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons

Hook As I've said before, I don't personally know how the ATC performs in MSFS. I'm only basing my comments on what some who have used the new sim are reporting. My main beefs with the ATC have always been 1)the flawed vectoring algorithm which commands multiple unnecessary heading changes and vectors you 30 miles out for an approach, and 2)the late altitude instructions which come when you're 300 feet from the previously assigned altitude. If they fixed those things the I'll be happy. I got my fill of ATC getting vectored via Delaware from New Jersey trying to land at New York, or vectored directly through a mountain at El Paso, or being ordered to land at Narsarsuaq from the east. "Report runway in sight." I had to go to external view in the Baron to even find the word not allowed runway! Then there were all the ping-pong, back and forth frequency changes between two frequencies when doing flight following. No thanks. I quit filing IFR fight plans and started, you know, just flying. Sorta like real life in a GA aircraft. If I'd ever gotten assigned an odd altitude, I wouldn't care, I'd just fly at that altitude. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! August 15, 20205 yr Hopefully the SDK has enough access to ATC that it will allow third parties to truly do some great stuff in MSFS. I know that was an issue in previous sims. Be the first on your block to create a working ATC for MSFS, sell it through the Microsoft store, rake in the money. If you start right now, today, you may find out why it's never been done some time in the next 10 years. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! August 15, 20205 yr It could be an opportunity for someone for sure. I’ve heard ATC addon developers talk about the challenges they face due to the lack of SDK access is FSX and P3D (particularly in having a third party ATC actually control the aircraft). Asobo seems so open in the development of their SDK hopefully this will include ATC so somebody smarter than me can create a solid addon. So i was only curious if you knew how the Pilot2atc has progressed lately. I use to use it with XP, but never tried it with the MS series. Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons

Or had you learned about quicksort by then? Still an excellent exercise, and fun too. I used bubble sort in the blackjack program I wrote to teach myself FORTRAN when I was in the US Army in the Pentagon. Your tax dollars at work. You would have gotten more for said tax dollars if I'd known about quicksort at the time. 😄 If anyone thinks writing a good ATC program for MSFS will be hard, consider that MSFS includes real time real world air traffic! Being controlled by real world ATC outside the sim! Flying in Alaska keeps looking better and better. Hook Larry Hookins Oh!
