August 15, 20205 yr Am surprised that I am advised the download will take two and a quarter hours. I was expecting about 5 or 6 hours. We'll see..... May all your landings be safe ones! Hugh Costello - NZWN
August 15, 20205 yr I manage 36-37Mb/s, so at 36Mb/s: 5 hours 57 minutes 54 seconds to transfer 90 Gigabytes at 4.29 MB/sec or 8 hours 25 minutes 3 seconds to transfer 127 Gigabytes at 4.29 MB/sec But that's assuming the servers aren't overstressed with connections from everyone else downloading at the same time.🥺 OS: Win11 Home; Mobo: Asus TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WiFi D4; CPU: Intel i5-12400 (Alder Lake) 4.4 GHzRAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 64Gb (4x16GB) 3600 MHz; GPU: MSI Radeon RX 5700XT [8GB] SSD: Corsair Force MP510 (for OS); 2x 1TB & 1x 2TB Sabrent Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 (one for sim, two for addons)HDD: Seagate 3TB (Data); Seagate 1TB (Programs), ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B Curved 31.5" monitor, 1440p, 38Mbs ethernet Fulcrum One Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo throttle, Thrustmaster Airbus TCA sidestick & throttle, Logitech Pro pedals, Xbox wireless gamepad (1st gen)

August 16, 20205 yr 27 minutes 58 seconds for the 127GB download My broadband tests at 650Mbps download on average
August 16, 20205 yr Not trying to derail this thread, but I stated this in another thread - your graphics settings in MSFS2020 are directly proportional to your internet speed. I am very very skeptical that the 5Mbps min in the data settings can pull anything above Medium in the graphics settings. Maybe with some trickeration it can be done, but I really struggled in Beta testing. Wasn't able to try off-line mode, so I dont know what that's going to hold for thise of us with limited internet. I have 20Mbps service, but only clear an avg of about 12Mbps. Edit: it took 25.5 hours to download the Beta for me. Maybe that is were the cache will help out, once you have flown over your favorite places and those areas get stored in the cache I would think that would help out with the slow Internet speeds? Mathijs Kok outlined the four parts of the sim and "The downloaded content" is the part that would be most affected by slow internet speeds. the sim consists of four parts: The simulator itself, obviously mandatory. The default content (basic world, aircraft etc). This default world is on it's own far better then FSX could ever deliver. This is a mandatory part, always part of the simulator.. The downloaded content (more details for the world, better ground imagery, far more correctly placed trees etc etc). This comes in 'blocks' that can be buffered on your system so if you always fly from Detroit it will not have to be loaded every time). Contrary to what some less informed sources say there is absolutely NOTHING indicating this is paid content or will be paid content. We do not sell a time limited simulator. This is an optional part, you do not have to stream any scenery, weather or traffic. Third party content that can buy from the build in store or from external shops. Obviously optional, it is a super sim without add-ons. Cheers Martin Edited August 16, 20205 yr by MartinRex007
August 16, 20205 yr To be perfectly honest, given the size of the download, the notion that on the day of launch, many people who've actually given MS money for the thing almost a month ago, might possibly not even be able to play the thing until potentially days later because of a decision to not allow pre-set up, is one of the worst examples of p***-poor customer service I've seen. Nearly every bit of software I've come across in a similar situation and of a similarly large size, has allowed pre-orders to set up prior to launch. August 16, 20205 yr What I'm wondering is if Steam will download the game itself (like every other steam title) or if it just downloads the launcher and you still have to download inside the sim like the beta. Steam servers are the fastest and most reliable for big downloads IMO, so I'd probably go Steam if I knew it was going to download and update like normal games (with the marketplace and content manager being in sim still). No, I'm not that bothered personally, it's not as if I haven't any other things to do, but it could nevertheless have been easily addressed by simply missing out a small 'this bit makes it work' exe part of the package whilst the big stuff was available, then having that vital last bit be downloadable at launch to make the thing functional. This does not seem like rocket science and it would have been a nice courtesy to people with a slow connection who have after all, handed over the cash weeks ago.
