V4 to V5 Upgrade Considerations

Yes the same here, actually I deleted P3Dv4. I find the scenery and EA (clouds) a huge step forward for LM.

What changed in the scenery?

I mostly use ORBX so I assume I won't see a difference?

I am also standing by with 4.5 but found this thread intriguing.  I recently made the jump from Win 7 to 10 so I am able to do the upgrade to 5.  It is interesting that V5 scenery is so good that ORBX is not necessary.  To include ORBX base and global?

Question;  If you choose to not use ORBX base and global then you can't use the airports. Correct?

You can still use any airports.

I am not sure that "Orbx is not necessary"... instead "Orbx Vector" is not necessary..

Well I am using Orbx Global with v5.  It's Orbx VECTOR that some are not using.    P3Dv5 shipped with new vector data, newer than Orbx Vector's dataset, to the best of my knowledge.  So initially, Orbx didn't bother moving Vector to v5.   Subsequently, however, it was found that the v5 vector data had quite a few errors in it and that maybe it would be worthwhile to have Orbx Vector for v5 -- so, Orbx did release that.

I have never used Vector so that will not affect me.  However, I have used most other  ORBX products for years.  I love their airports.

That said. the photos of v5 look good since I typically fly jets and occasionally VFR.

Unless something has changed I think you have to have ORBX base and even regions in some instances to use the ORBX airports.  Am I wrong.

Vector used to be a frame rate hog. I don't use it in V5.

I got base and most ORBX regions. From what I know You don't need regions for most of their addon airports. (There was a huge discussion about that involving Froogle and JV some time ago). But You will certainly note discrepancies around  the addon edges.

Is that screenshot with EA on or off? Those clouds don't look good at all.

Cheers

I thought on, but looking at the photo looks off.
