August 23, 20205 yr I keep getting a notification to Press D to reset my heading indicator ... nothing happens when I press D.
August 23, 20205 yr Are you sure nothing happens? Press it will looking at your Heading Indicator - did the needle jump a little to the left or right?
August 23, 20205 yr Author Nope, the "D" key doesn't do anything, then the notification comes back about 30 seconds later. I just turned notifications off ... at least now I don't see it.
August 23, 20205 yr Very weird, I was getting this too but it was telling me press '7' and when I did nothing happened. Ended up doing it manually.
August 23, 20205 yr Author Lotharen, have you got "STEAM" ... I've not used steam before, would there be a difference?

August 23, 20205 yr Author I should have mentioned, I'm seeing it in the 152 and the 172. Haven't tried the others yet.
August 23, 20205 yr Just alight your heading indicator with compass. It suppose to precess 1 degree every 15 minutes Life time flight sim enthusiast, current airplane owner 172P (past C182F). August 23, 20205 yr Right chaps - let's get this right. The "D" key is realigning the Gyrocompass with the Magnetic compass. The Gyro will slip out of accuracy as you fly due to magnetic variation on the world's surface - dependant on where you are; As of MSFS - it IS simulated accurately and your Heading Indicator WILL drift off. That's referring to the number of the button on your controller. Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

It suppose to precess 1 degree every 15 minutes In reality, all of the C172s I’ve flown definitely precess more than 1° in 15 mins. Maybe closer to 3-5. That being said, I haven’t found that the sim even models precession. Does anyone have evidence that it does? My heading indicator always seems aligned to the mag compass. Sometimes it’s 1-2° off right after engine start, and then I won’t touch it for the rest of an hour long flight. Realistically, it should be several degrees off on engine start.

It depend on the gyros. Some precessions more done less. 1 degrees per 15 min is statistical average. I don’t know how msfs models it. August 23, 20205 yr Author I’m not a pilot. So tell me, when the D key is pressed, what is supposed to be going on? How would I manually do it, not using the D key? (Does that sync heading have anything to do with it?)
