You have to remember it's the quality of the data that is available for Blackshark to do their thing. This data quality is not the same globally Exactly. Everyone is assuming that we have 100% coverage of the earth with the highest resolution satellite data. That just isn't true. Spending more than I'd like to admit on Landclass and Scenery mesh in COF and FSX, I can attest to this fact. In my neighborhood the community pool is properly rendered. Yet around my house many pools aren't because they have the screened in pool patios which look like part of the building and not a pool. I never dreamed that the sim would be so accurate that we all start spitting hairs about swimming pool placement. Talk about First World Problems....
August 26, 20205 yr Actually, I see waves of newcomers into the hobby that have zero clue how P3Dv1.XX - v.5.XX have looked like. In my opinion these people should be communicating between each other in the separate forum and prohibited to write anything into other forums until they mature enough to maintain a reasonable discussion without childish attitude such as "where are the Catholic cathedrals". 9950X3D, X870E ROG CROSSHAIR HERO, Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB DDR5-6000 PC5-48000, ASUS RTX 5070Ti 16GB, 9100 PRO 4TB Samsung ,990 PRO 4TB Samsung, AX1600i 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX, ASUS 360 ARGB EXTREME 360mm Liquid CPU Cooling Kit.

Many private docks around the Seattle coastline, too, to compliment the owners' pools. What I don't see is the rabbit hutch and the tool shed in my back garden here in England, darn it. My house and the side of my street is replaced by two large apartment blocks. Terrible satellite data in my neck of the woods.

P3D? I remember what FS98 looked like. A jumbled mess on the ground until you got up to 5000 AGL. Clouds that looked like they were constructed in Minecraft. They literally were made up of huge white cubes. The only good thing I can say about FS98 is that hardware graphic acceleration finally brought us frame rates that resembled actual motion instead of something from a flipbook cartoon. A far cry from the CGA version of Microsoft Flight Simulator (4 colors (none of which occurred in nature...lol) where we actually could see individual frame redraws. However, it's easy to see why those of us who have a history with FS stand gobsmacked while people who grew up playing FarCry and other First Person Shooters can complain of Frame Rate drops to the mid 30's....(shock!!!). I'd have given my left ...well...you know... to fly around at 30FPS on ANY version of MSFS
August 26, 20205 yr I'm not sure but I suspect most things that are round IRL like grain elevators, pools because of the tesselations have been turned into square objects to reduce overhead on Autogen. So other opinions cannot possibly be as valid as yours, unless they support your view? The OP was making an observation, not comparing MSFS to any other sim software, current or previous. There are plenty of childish posts from those who like to ridicule anyone who points out any failing or weaknesses with MSFS. It does not seem to matter how much or how little experience anyone has on either side of the argument. If everyone adopted that head in the sand attitude that issues must not be mentioned, then those issues might never be fixed. John B

If everyone adopted that head in the sand attitude that issues must not be mentioned, then those issues might never be fixed. True. But there appears to be a pattern today where we all too rapidly point fingers at "someone" to place blame without doing adequate research into the problem. I've seen many posts on people complaining that the sim is complete garbage because a certain area isn't rendered properly, where the root cause lies not with the program but with the data that is being provided. Garbage in = Garbage out. Case in point. Try to fly out of Bejing and find the "Great Wall of China". at Badaling. Shouldn't be tough. It's visible from space, don't you know. But not so much in the sim. So I did some looking around. Both in Google and Bing maps. Guess what, It's almost impossible to make out. And that's with me zoomed in pouring over an area that I visited IRL. To give MSFS 2020 some credit, they've put some small square buildings on the hills where some the "towers" of the wall are. The rest is all trees. The wall connecting those towers is almost impossible to make out in satellite imagery of the area. So how is ANY AI supposed to say. Yep, Great Wall of China, when I can't and I know what I'm looking for? Yet, where my mom lives, the satellite imagery was so detailed that I could make out the old maroon Ford Escort Wagon my Aunt used to park in front of my Mother's house. So is it any wonder that different areas have different levels of quality? Perhaps if we ALL took some time to do a mediocum of research before throwing out accusations we'd live in a better world altogether.

Garbage in = Garbage out. I pretty much agree with that and I'm fed up with seeing so many posts that simply rubbish MSFS without proper explanation. But I think it is perfectly reasonable for users to make observations about what they have noticed when using the sim, without being insulted by what has largely been a recurring group of people who seem to think only their views are valid, Many of these have been on Avsim for some time, and should be able to remember when forum members used to help one another with constructive comments, rather than the criticism and cheap sarcasm which has become common. I was on AVSIM back in 98.Even had a Pro Pilot 99 Virtual Airline "hosted" here. Forum members did help one another with constructive comments. But Forum members were also quick to call out trolls. And some of the criticisms appear to be trollish. Even 22 years ago, I sometimes would find myself at the end of a barb from a "senior member" because my post had been a little misinterpreted, and I was always quick to mea culpa, if I could read what the person was saying. Also, I think 22 years ago, people had thicker skin. Sticks and Stones and the like.
