MSFS 2020 will crush your high end computer

Recommended Posts

We don't even have DX12 yet on this, so that's messing with all of the new GPU's are built around it. Have you looked at the spec for the 3090? its at least 50% more powerful than an OC'd Ti, so saying it wont do much is pretty laugable. I run a solid 47+ fps on 4k High/Ultra mix at the moment, which will probably go up a little with DX12. I've never dropped below 30 even going into KLAX with ground aircraft over 70 on the slider. I'll record on phone or something later when I get home to show my fps. My PC is far from low end.

Ryzen 9 3950x OC'd.

EVGa RTX 2080 Super XC Ultra OC'd

Trident Z 128gb ddr4 3200mhz

 1TB samsung 970 evo m.2

2TB SSD.

Gigabit internet.

2080 super and 3090 are plausible. I guess we have to wait for the updates.

The super and Ti will still be pushing their limits on this for sure even if they work out known issues causing loss of FPS. It's insane that they even chose to drop this in DX11 though. The next gen 3080 and 3090 will have no problem on this if they live up to their boasted specs. I'm still not sure if I want to hold off until they release the super cards though.

3090 is almost a necessity to have. Upgrading could prove difficult given the 12 pin requirement. A card performing 40-50% above the 2080ti could make the experience a lot more smoother but never seamless.

It wont. The issue is the Mainthread for any card above 2080 using any resolution above 1080p. Your 3090 will be sitting at 20% usage. Asobo needs to reduce the draw calls or move to DX12.

What were they thinking when they opted for DX11?

I purchased a new computer and monitor for MSFS.  I went with a 2K G-SYNC monitor because it was obviously going to struggle at 4K.

My i9 10900K, GTX 2080ti & 32Gb RAM gives me a smooth 60fps.  2K is hardly low res so go 2K for the best of graphics/FPS

You’re right, nothing official. All speculation as far as I know.

Nice rig you have there. I think 2k is more than acceptable.

I build the same computer for this Sim, and I think it will serve me well at least for a couple of years.

Depends on plane, area, weather.

I run 3840x1600, ultrawide.
32GB ram. I9900ks 5ghz water cooled. 2080ti. I get around 50fps in most places using the C172 analogue. Going in to major cities (London for eg) it can drop to 30 but normally stays 40-50fps. This is with real weather enabled, had overcast the other day and it removed 10fps. Everything else barely affects the FPS weather wise.

And it’s smooth, which is important. I use gsync, so have no stuttering.  I also reduced LOD down to 100, helped the cpu enormously. Removed any micro stutters.  Everything else on ultra. I am now gpu limited, as one should be.
