Looks pretty but I think the original shots tend to look more realistic of what you see in real life.

When these shader mods started to become popular years ago, I’ve always felt that the results, while looking pretty, didn’t necessarily reflect a true representation of what we see naturally.

It's all about not doing too much  and making it look too exaggerated, subtle changes can make it look great.

I agree. That's the equivalent of cranking up the bass and treble on an amplifier and say that it sounds better.

Well, along with real photos I have and video I have also flown IRL and my preset reflects this from being in the sky but there will always be people who think differently.

Yeah, that’s a good comparison.

For some reason users tend to want to darken and add saturation to the way the sim looks. Not that it looks bad, sometimes it looks nice, just not realistic. I just got back from a real word round trip between KDFW and KFLL and I think the standard look of MSFS looks pretty similar to what I saw on my two flights without have to tweak it more.

But to each their own. If you enjoy tweaking shaders and the look of the sim, then that’s what you should do. Personally, I think the default look is the best I’ve seen yet aside from some shots I’ve seen from DCS.

The one thing about viewing screen shots is that we all might have our screens calibrated differently. So what looks very realistic on your end might look either dark or washed out on my end. Plus everyone’s eyesight can vary as well. Not as far as 20/20 but how they perceive color or light.

Another good demonstration of how the default pretty much nails it. The shaders don't add much if anything at all.

The way people look at their games is influenced by what they see on Netflix: Deep blacks, overly saturated, the orange and teal look, etc.

Reshade is the last thing this sim needs. The Devs really nailed the lighting. Reshade looks good because it has that pop in colors and it looks pleasing to the eye but actually is far from real life color tones. Also the weather engine is so dynamic that the sim keeps changing the color tone depending on atmospheric conditions. Your reshade setting might look good in one scene but can look really bad in the other when the atmospheric conditons shift.

Originals looked better.

9900k@5GHz, 32GB@3200 RAM, Strix RTX 2080ti, VKB Gladiator mkii, VKB rudder pedals

The higher contrast is dramatic, great for screenshots maybe but I agree with others in that the originals look much more realistic.

Perhaps it should be called "wearing sunglasses mod"
