Installing just a few liveries from 10 GB livery megapack?

Featured Replies

what we need is a good programmer that can work with the megapack people, to be able to set-up a program that displays the livery and lets you select which ones you want to install and then downloads and installs the selected ones and builds the config as appropriate, so you can see the quality of the repaint and then select based on your preferences.

I too have given up now as there is a specific subset that I want, and the quality on some is really not good, and i don't want to take up the space on my disk 😞 .  In addition, I don't want to have to page through all the liveries just to get the one or two that I use.

Like all good plans, this one has now reached a second stage and needs that next leap to continue to make it valuable 🙂  Unfortunately I am not a programmer or I would volunteer.

I wholeheartedly agree! Exactly what we need 🙂

I have a question that is kinda on topic, but slightly off. If I encounter you in multiplayer and you have a custom downloaded livery applied to your plane, is that livery downloaded to my PC so I can see your fancy paint, or do I just see the vanilla version of your plane?

Well, up untill yesterday I would say that you would see the default livery (ie. airbus livery colors on the a320). However, I reinstalled MSFS yesterday, and deleted everything in the community folder in the process. However, on the apron next to my plane was a player in an a320 YELLOW livery. Don't know how that happened.

Last week someone said on here that they had seen someone in multiplayer with a custom livery that they didn't have installed themselves, somehow it must be true.

I respect all the painters but this megapack is not a good idea at all. Whos need ALL the liveries made? And who wants to search the right livery among the hundreds in the sim? I do hope we can have better way to add paints we want!  @Moria15 is right, that would be a solution. Anyone able to do that??

Maybe soon there will be a Mod installer where you can pick and choose what livery you want to install, maybe.  😛

what is the reason for such a huge file? I know there are more liveries but the previous 154 megapack  is only 3gb. I am going to hold off on the new megapack because so far megapack 7 is keeping me happy enough. Until we get a great ai program and models like in p3d I am going to hold off installing these megapacks. I really do appreciate the work that went into making them.

Sorry to be a jerk but 80% of the repaints are either not up to standards of MSFS 2020 or are outright atrocious. Also, I wish they would do the liveries one by one, so I don't have to edit out the unrealistic/atrocious ones.

I'm working on something along these lines.   Although it will mostly be intended to make mod packaging easier, it would still allow you to select only specific liveries out of the downloaded package to install and make a custom mod for you.

It will probably be a week or so before it's ready, though;  I have several different MSFS projects I'm working on and want some time to fly, too.  😄

Hi,

I just wanted American Airlines and Aer Lingus A320 paints to start. The latest Mega Pack was v8 I think.

So, I just copied the American as [1] and Aer Lingus as [2] config files to below [FLTSIM.0] and erased all below. No other files were altered.

It worked! I hopes this is helpful to others. Way too many paints. Maybe, the various paints can be displayed in a smaller scale in a grid in the future.

Also they change the airplane name for whatever reason, making it unusable in FSeconomy without editing the .cfg, no thanks.

You should be able to just download it and transfer what you want from the zip file to your community folder. What i'm unsure about is the aircraft.cfg for each plane, if you only want certain liveries i'm not sure if you need to modify this.

I did install an early version of this with a few liveries but removed everything apart from what was in the Neo folder because much of it was either needless junk or repaints of the 747 with mirrored textures. Seems they've gone further now, constantly repacking each pack like this doesn't really seem to me like the best way to go about it.

Thought I had an issue with the 747 repaints one side is the right way around the other is completely backwards - is that what you were getting @DPSimulation

Yeah, the texture is mirrored and there isn't anything these repainters can do about it at the moment.

FYI, for those wanting an easy way to only install selected liveries from the mega-pack, they have released a mega-pack-installer on their Discord channel

     https://discord.com/channels/746450820077453393/751103219148521482

"Usage:
-- Place MegapackInstaller.exe in the same folder as liveriesmegapack.zip
-- Run MegapackInstaller.exe after which it will extract the liveries to /Temp/ folder -- After it's done with that, you'll be able to select which aircrafts you want the liveries for and click the button at the bottom. Whatever   you unselect, gets deleted from the temporary folder.
-- It will list every livery in the pack with a thumbnail, the aircraft, the name and a tickbox for Player livery and AI livery (where available).
-- Untick whichever you want and click the button at the bottom. The unselected liveries get removed (model, texture folders as well as their aircraft.cfg entries). The aircraft.cfg and layout.json get rebuilt for every aircraft.
-- The temporary folder will be renamed /Build/ when the tool is done.
-- Inside the /Build/ folder you will find your filtered megapack."
