For the first time in my life, I'm considering swapping to a ryzen chip. Are they any good for msf? In p3d and xp, they are kinda scoffed at because amd hasn't been much good for flightsimulators. Has that changed now, and what chip would you suggest that is equivalent to the 10900k? that was because single core performance was always higher for intel. but this sim works multicore, so a good 8 core amd sure will do the job, and might be cheaper than the equivalent intel. i run with an amd 5 2600, old but works good enuf for me.

September 7, 20205 yr Go into FS2020 options and enable "Dev Mode". It will place an overlay on the top right corner of your monitor which shows performance stats. It will read something like, "limited by GPU", or "limited by main thread". It will also show frame times. If you're constantly seeing, "Limited by main thread", then a cpu upgrade would fit the ticket (imo). If you're constantly seeing, "limited by GPU", then not so much. September 7, 20205 yr Author Im absolutely limited by main thread. And I AM going to get an upgrade. I wanted the 10900k, but seems that my norwegian retailer is having problems getting it in stock. I guess I can wait. Anyone know if there is a reason for the 10900k to be delayed several times? Is there like a 10900k draught at the moment? 😄 Edited September 7, 20205 yr by Andreas Stangenes Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78

Seems that the mobile cpu have already launched, but some say that the K versions wont be out untill 2021. Actually, most of the articles about Tiger Lake is talking about laptop pc's..? Tiger Lake is mobile-only indeed. The 11th generation of desktop CPUs will be the Rocket Lake line-up. According to current rumours: Release in H1 2021 14nm backport of Sunny/Willow Cove 10% IPC increase over Comet Lake Up to 8 cores Same clocks and higher power consumption If you're thinking of going with Ryzen, wait for Zen 3 next month. It will have higher single-threaded performance than Comet Lake, and maybe Rocket Lake as well.

I am currently on a i7-6770k @4.4 with ht on (watercooled). It has served me well over the years, but Im wondering if maybe my 4 cores are lagging behind. I have a rtx 2080ti rog strix from Asus, and 32 gig of ddr4. I have a i9-10900k that can boost up to 5.3ghz in order, but it wont arrive at the store untill 6th of september. At this point, I am wondering if this is the best chip for msf, and whether or not I will see any performance boost. I am running a 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor, and I've set my frames to 30 and running on ultra with the fps fix for glass cockpit. What do you guys think? I have an i7-6700k with GTX1660ti running at 1080. Whenever there are stutters I notice that it's my CPU maxing out at 100% not my graphics card.
September 7, 20205 yr Cancel the order. Wait to see what AMD will put on the table, and then Intel response. In this battle, prices fall.

And then after you see the Intel response, see what AMD will put on the table after that, and then once again wait for Intel's response? Technology is always improving and no matter when you buy something new, better and cheaper will eventually come along. If you wait 1-more year, then go ahead and wait 2-more because something better will come along then.....Now if I know for a fact something is just about to be released that's better and cheaper (like the RTX 30-series) I would wait for it.
September 7, 20205 yr Author hehe I'm pretty sure I will be getting an upgrade at least by december. So anything that will be releasing before that is ok. Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78

You might look into the i9 10850k if you’re in a rush, apparently very similar specs and a bit cheaper (slightly slower).
