I have ATC with STRONG accent

Featured Replies

So, I thought it was my brain playing tricks on me at 4am, but no, ATC sometimes has a VERY strong accent, similar to indian or something like that, but with strong R, it was speaking thirthytree like theeRRRty TRRee and so on.
Can't explain in words but if you hear it, you'll notice it.

Was flying around Puerto Rico and BVI

What was that?

Also at times it selected ATIS automatically and couldn't change frequency.

If you have your ATC set to Windows Offline (in settings) it uses the default language pack on your system (probably a bug cause it's normally supposed to use english one) ... So if your system is in spanish for example, it'll read english with a spanish accent.

Nope, ATC is Azure(can't select anything else), all set for online.
But not all ATC has the strange accent, just 2-3 times in 4 hours of flying.

Actually being half-Puert Rican it would be closer to Puel-to Lico... “r”s are not rolled, but changed to “l”s...😃

Puel-to Lico...

That makes You a full Puelto-Lican in my book. (All 100% PR fellows I met in UF pronounced just like that)
Cheers.

I was just kidding. And we now learned how it's really pronounced, which is nice.

That's pronounced as Puerrrto Rrrico.

That is the way we would pronounce it in México.
We kind of love double "r"s.  Like Ferrocarril = Train (Double r between vowels)

BTW: Sounds like Mejico not Mexxico, like some non native Spanish speaking people pronounce it.

I know You were kidding, Cheers.

I'm Dutch and in some parts of the country we have the rrrolling 'R's. In other parts the 'R's are almost English 'Ah's.

My other half is Mexican, so I can vouch for this too...😀

100% Mexi-Rican, how’s that for an oxymoron...

Don't confuse the english native speakers. They can neither pronounce the spanish x nor the german ch, which are synonimous, correctly. 😉

Somehow that reminded me of the fabulous Kennedy Berlin Speech.

Someone (on this forum I think) said pronouncing 'Three' like "tree" is actually accurate phraseology, it's just no one in the real world actually does it.

Though they may have been making a joke.

I'm guessing the ATIS frequency the same frequency as what you were tuned into.

I've had that a couple times. I've also received ATIS information from airports nowhere near me. I was tuned into CYID tower in Nova Scotia, and was receiving ATIS from some airport all the way in Maine on the same frequency.
