XP 11.50 FINAL RTM is out now.

Featured Replies

After I upgraded it now just says X-Plane 11.50/Vulkan. The r3 is gone. This is consistent with their past releases, I believe...

No sign of an update appearing for me

Tells me I have the most up to date version available ie 11.41

Am I just impatient?

You can also use the check for BETA box...and you will get it instantly...for that will give your 11:50R3, which IS...in fact, the RTM full off-Beta release.  It might say, RC but don't worry, you have the full RTM version. Later, it will correct that opening screen.

Good. Now that Vulkan is getting behind us, i can wait for a proper update on what they are working on lighting and clouds wise. Or what XP12 should have.

Im really chilled.

11.50 modded with ortho covering all of europe, enhanced cloudscapes and autoatc (and likely sea traffic/and the python based ground services I found yesterday) is ticking every box I care about as a pilot and a flight sim junky, perf is absolutely rock solid even in VR.

Yes I am excited for XP12, but so satisfied with XP11 now that everything is a pleasure again.

Tree veg and forests still make me sad.

That's okay, everybody's different.

I just want better water, lighting and clouds. Anything else scenery wise is fine by me. (okay, perhaps better trees too because those we have are pretty awful)

Did that-didn’t know that pathway

All good

Thanks again

Yeah no sorry, that doesn't cover it at all. The water fix is a workaround, seen that in loads of .lua files around in numerous configs. It still looks awful. For the clouds the freeware project is a good thing but it's far from anything more developed and it will take a long time anyway. Lighting is not about filters and such, it's about how lighting illuminates things, how it goes across the sky and in between objects and especially clouds.

These are all features which imho need to be fixed by  those having full access to the sim: LR.
And no, i don't want another endless discussion or insults on your part on it, i think that MS did a good job with both water, lighting and clouds and i expect the same (or something in the same direction considering the difference of budget) from LR.

Have you got reflections on? You can now in 11.50 with virtually if not no perf hit, and awful definitely isn't how I would describe that (I haven't even changed the default color here)

Well, I agree its not a complete solution, but the reason I'm satiated I would best describe as most of whats left as "lots and lots of white elephants". I mean, yeah, it'd be cool to have them, but will they really change the experience that much? - and how much will it hit performance - Its already on the edge for a decent VR experience, often falling below 90fps (that changes with the NVIDIA 3090 of course).

From FL400 the 2D clouds actually very often look lovely, the reason EC changes my sim experience is playing dodgems (skud running) with the clouds in low level VFR needed volumetric - especially in mountainous environments - EC checks that box now.

So yeah, bring on XP12, but I'm chilled, I dont actually think its possible for me to enjoy flight sim more right now, and sure there are a lot of loose ends that LR can make absolutely bullet proof, but none of them (except the trees veg and forests in non hand crafted regions) really spoil the experience.

The next best alternative flight sim doesn't even have particles or replay, let alone feature complete aircraft that fly exactly like the real thing from the R44 through to the 747 and everything in between - and thats just the freeware.

Obviously, I will be over the moon if XP 12 looks something like:

We can but hope, and not get over excited, lest we end up disappointed.

XP graphics engine is based on 90's techniques with sprite trees, 2d clouds, rudimentary terrain and missing grass etc.  Things like shadow jaggies cannot even be fixed because the whole code base is a complete mess trying to support so many different operating system's and different drivers etc. They try to fix anything and sure enough they break other stuff. It's legacy noodle code. And in many ways it's like FSX code.  The only way forward is to ditch the whole graphics code and start afresh with a new modern graphics engine and work that into the sim.  That's the only way XP will ever have graphics like the video.  However the developers are never going to do that since it is way too much work they rather keep hacking the legacy XP code they have today which is a total mess. So in short if you are hoping XP will have graphics like the video well sorry that's never going to happen.

I hope that this means that you will ditch X-Plane and fly MSFS exclusively...and also stop frequenting the X-Plane forums? Oh please say yes it is so 😂!

the only significant difference between that video and xplane 11.50 graphics engine is the contents of the shaders folder. Both Vulkan, both win/lin/mac

SPIRV is as modern as and powerful as graphics get.

Not Laminars job, that's AMD and NVIDIA, of which the best you can get is Nvidia Linux, since that makes up some ~70% of the GPU market (guessing), thats where all the R&D money goes.

Only a complete word not allowed would put a $10000 Tesla card in a windows box or run windows on one of these

I don`t like the colors of the video, they are way oversaturated.

XP11 has already great graphics with Ortho and Re-Shade. I am very excited about XP 12, because whatever they do, as physics are on top level, it can only become better. LR has officially stated they are working on the graphics.

I have wasted too much of my personal time (OK it wasn`t that much) looking forward to FS since the anouncement, just for the feel to fly in a new dimension of graphics. What has come out is a mess, it`s not even worth it for me to wait for the professional GA add-ons. I`m asking myself how this mess of physics can be released.

Btw. talking about real time graphics, I guess I can show a better one :P:

YouTube

To face truth, XP12 will unlikely have same graphics as FS (altough they are too colorfull). But I would prefer that, so gamers won`t want to try XP. It`s better if they laugh about XP 12 graphics, as they do about XP11.

For many (i.e. Nvidia) users the performance is now worse than OpenGL, and for no better visual improvement we have the original visual bugs (cloud flickering, jagged shadows, sudden cloud redraws etc) plus new additional Vulkan bugs (floating mountains, blurry textures, brightness changes, freezing, crashes to desktop etc). and that Vulkan breaks certain art controls, scripts, addons, planes and airports.

I guess those "many" are nvidia users are the majority conned into using an operating system that doesn't support multithreading very well.

My GTX1070 sees 30-50fps in opengl with up to half second stutters (see around 2 min 19 secs in the below video) and 60-110fps in vulkan smooth as silk (everything after 4min 10 secs) .

But it really does depend on owning a GPU that supports decent computation, and using an operating system designed from the ground up for optimal performance when doing complex simulation.

That is quite an offensive statement, more so if you haven't even seen the code, its like me saying that your house is a total mess when I don't know you and haven't  even been inside your house.

Your comments are totally out of line, if don't like XP, then you got other options out there.
