Why does autogen only load within a mile of the plane now?

Has anyone found a way to fix the tree draw distance?

ps - moderators, please don't lock this thread (despite it being overrun by people hitting each other with handbags)

I saw on a tweking guide that the draw distance of trees is tied to the "tree quality" slider, so maybe have them on ultra, to see if that makes any difference. (if your already on ultra, then, i have no clue)

Yes, certainly true. And I also think Asobo/MS are maybe trying to setup a sim able to run on a certainly big universe of PC hardware, giving more performance and less graphics quality.

Cheers, Ed

Yes, althought im on the low end of the spectrum regarding hardware, and the sim still look absolutely amazing.

I have them on Ultra, but they still aren't drawing out as far as they used to. Is there a "Tree LOD" setting in one of the config files that might be turned up higher than the slider allows? I'm asking that of everyone who might know.

Oh for crying out loud! How hard can it be for community developers to test their fixes properly? I don't think it's unreasonable to expect fixes that just fix stuff without breaking other stuff. From now on I will never have any reasonable expectiations for any stuff coming from the MFS community. Ever.

I'm shaking my head with so much disappointment that I can't see what I'm typimng onm my screemn gjpl flp dlrp

LOL...yeah..but none of them asked $183 CND of you...and forced them on ya...lol.   Oh, Lordy....

Heres an idea, make your own fix then. Community developers have basically saved our asses from day one, in msfs, fs9,fsx, p3d, xp11. And yes, its TOTALLY unreasonable to expect anything from a guy that has a day job, a family, but still bust his word not allowed trying to fix, create, edit our sims, just for the love of it. And dont forget that these guys are trying to fix stuff they didnt even break. And with MSFS, lets not forget that a lot of stuff is "server side", wich is a nogo zone for indy devellopers. Long story short, you'r probably a great guy, but come on...a bit of decency.

He was absolutely joking...with a bit of laugh-sarcasm.   Parodying the present mess we are in.  He was not being critical by any means. 🙂

But... is it just trees that are affected? I think it is also buildings and other objects too? Since this last update, I moved my Terrain Level of Detail Slider from 100 to 200 and I can't really see any improvement when doing that. Also no apparent effect on performance.

I also tried that experimental workaround for false tall buildings and LOD and I am not convinced that did any good either.

Welcome to the Beta program.

After some work, I was able to recover my LoDRadius back to 9.000000 (low density areas, and 7.000000 for higher density) ... need to test a little more as I had render scaling at 100 and AA looked horrible (normally I step up to render scaling 110 SSAA).  But 2.000000 (200) is definitely not the same as it was prior to the patch.  It's VERY hard to diagnose specific issues when I use a rolling cache ... I guess I can disable rolling cache but that just ensures performance problems all the time and/or reliant on server latency.  MSFS provided the rolling cache for a reason ... I hope, I think, it seems to work well once I get an area populated after a few local flights.

Cheers, Rob.

Rob...but hopefully, the 'unintentional' LoD snafus, were introduced bugs, that will get a dose of Raid...on the next patch.  Won't all your work, be overwritten, anyways?

Maybe try this? I wont cause my PC is already on its knees at current settings 😄

"There is a fix for the tree problem, I too noticed that the LOD and number of spawned trees was greatly reduced after the 2nd patch. I have tested multiple settings and although it’s still a work in progress, I can share the following and you are free to make the modifications after backing up your original file. Please note that this is a work in progress but from my side to side comparisons there is a major improvement in the LOD and the number of trees is probably better populated than even the original pre-patch (trees).

Go into your MSFS2020 folder/Packages/Official/steam/fs-base/vegetation folder

Open the 10-asobo_biomes file with a text editor

wherever you see ArtificialSurfacesScaleFactor=“x.x”, change all the values to either 1 or 1.0

When your done it should look like this ArtificialSurfacesScaleFactor=“1.0”

wherever you see SpeciesInstancesPerHectar=“xxx”, change all the values to double their current value, i.e. 200 will be 400 etc…

A little more complicated but it’s worth it, all the lines with spawnRatio=“xx”, triple their values i.e. if you see 0.15 make it 0.45, be careful with the values like these 0.05, this will change to 0.15, IF THE VALUE IS “1”, DO NOT CHANGE THE VALUE, if the value is “3” or “2” then double them!

Save, restart the sim and see the difference."

The developer, who is working for free, stated from the very beginning that the building height fix which included LOD was just experimental, and to use the other fix if you didn't want to experiment.

THEY BETTER BE WORKING FOR FREE!!!

After all they rushed out and sold worldwide a broken incomplete sim!!!

Actually take the full link, as theres a bit of discussion as to how and if it really works.

It's certainly a rushed patch. Scenery is not correctly displayed, as autogen is not drawn at a distance not far from your aircraft. Several planes have issues with their AP that were working Ok before the patch.

It's no matter the sim is worth the price or not, expensive or cheap, it's about a software product that still needs a lot of work and tests. I would only suggest to Asobo/MS to stop releasing "world updates" and any other similar extensions of the product, until the basic features of the sim are under control.

Let's concentrate on the basics.

Cheers, Ed

My post was not meant seriously, I hoped that would be very obvious...

"Jacques, it WAS...and I very much enjoyed the clever parody".   ...as was my reply back to you...  Messing around... 🙂

I think this is what its going to look like for a long time, otherwise VR cant handle this game, very sad, cant even be bothered to open it anymore.

LOD definitely reduced with this patch. Increasing tree / autogen quality to ultra got me nearly back to previous but will obviously need a dev fix.

interestingly the bump to ultra had no impact whatsoever on frames for me.

But there is no need for Asobo to do this. This is what graphics settings are for. I knew when I first installed the sim that I would need to dial back my settings from High / Ultra to Low if I want to fly in VR, and I'm okay with that. Ultra means Ultra, and if anything Asobo should be making Ultra even more Ultra. Now if they have to make Low even more Low in order to get VR and XBox to run the game smoothly, then okay, I can live with that, but don't nerf the Ultra settings!
