New Orbx Weather addon

Recommended Posts

Nice video and weather effects promo.
But somehow I sense something odd. Couple days ago in the Q&A they talked about weather and visibility getting fixed and upgraded. And ORBX already solved it?
The promo video is nice, but I would have removed the TBM purposing scenes.

Edit: In older SIMS, I almost never used a preset once the weather addons  were available.

I think SoFly have discovered a set of methods to present the various set weather themes, rather than have solved any underlying technical capabilities.

Those will come from Asobo directly as per the latest video.

Needs reviewing, but I call this an interesting stop gap.

Yu are aware that those are just a collection of presets? Nothing like real weather...

If they can make presets, I hope they could be eventually incorporated into live weather conditions. I'd buy that.

Beautiful video.

I find presets are handy if I want to fly VFR and the live weather is not suitable.

I downloaded and installed this preset collection from nexus mods:

https://www.nexusmods.com/microsoftflightsimulator/mods/80

The "Tropical Storm" is insane.

I tend to use the "scattered showers" preset a lot.   It is perfect for VFR.

I don’t really get it though, I can kind of make these presets to a degree myself within the sim minus the sandstorm. Not sure I see the appeal here.

There's definitely an appeal to be able to just click on a preset option and have set weather appear without having to set it all up manually.

It's priced appropriately enough too.

That looks interesting, thanks for sharing the link.

Two things.

1) It is annoying to make the same wind/cloud/rain settings over and over, every time you want a weather condition that is not in the standard presets.

2) The WPR files give you more options than the GUI weather in game. The "tropical storm" preset above gives you way heavier rain then you can get with the slider in game for example.

You do realise you can save your weather setting in the sim, don't you?

Which leads to the obvious question -- Why doesn't the UI in the sim allow us enough flexibility to do this ourselves without an add-on? Using an add-on also might need updates later if the default weather system is upgraded. But my main concern is that I would think the default weather engine should include these features and more.

I'm not looking forward to a flood of weather add-ons that try to improve what the simulator itself should deliver out of the box.

I haven't bought a single addon yet for msfs. So far, for me, nothing has come along worth buying.

I will definitely purchase being as I never use live weather. It will be nice to just click on a preset and fly.

Not for everyone price is decent and always nice to have options - when possible I like to support developers 🙂
