i'm not sure what impact (if any) it could have because that field is usually filled by the mod maker when he creates his project and it seems to have some fixed pre-determined values

As far as I've been able to tell, there isn't any negative effect -- it seems as though that field is just informational.  But I haven't performed thorough experiments on it, just some messing about while we worked out the Working Title build system, so I can't say that with 100% confidence without documentation which we don't have.

How can I add a screenshot on this forum (I do not use third party url mechanisms)?

I don't believe this can be done with how the forum is presently configured.   You'll need to put it on one of the free image hosting sites, which can usually be done without signing up for anything.

thanks for the info kaosfere as always.

Martin, like kaosfere said you would have to upload to another site, but if you don't want to do that and don't mind sending them by mail, i have sent you a private message with an e-mail address that you can use to send me the images directly. Thank you

If you want to make a change to an existing named addon preset, is there way to just 'update and save the change', or do you have to essentially rename the preset the same as what you had by going through the new preset, or maybe the rename, process? Not a big deal if that's the case, just asking in case I've missed something.

Thanks for the great app,

Al

Hello Al,

You can update an existing preset quickly once it is selected. If there is no selected preset, then yes you would have to rename it with the same name because otherwise the tool would not know which one to update.

When a preset is selected, you will see that the menu 'Update current preset' will contain the name of the currently selected preset. If you make changes to your current preset, you can then click on that option and the preset will be updated without having to respecify its name. So if you have a preset called europe and want to make some change to it :

  • apply the preset you want to change (example 'Europe')
  • modifiy it by enabling/disabling the addons you want to add/remove
  • click on the option 'update preset --> Europe'

It's a bit like when you want to update a document on your PC. First you have to open it (apply preset), then make the changes, then click on 'Save' (update preset).

Feel free to let me know if there's something i missed in your question, if it's not clear enough or if you were thinking about a better way to do this, thank you.

Love this tool, wish it had an "add scenery to an existing preset"  function. Now I select and load a preset (e.g. EU) and than add the new scenery and save the preset with the same name (EU). Would be great to just add a scenery to a existing preset without loading and saving names.

But it as said above I love the tool...

Hello, thanks for your comment.

You don't have to save it again with the same name, you can use the update option like explained in the post just above yours. Not sure if you've read it or maybe it's not clear enough (or maybe i didnt exactly understand what you are trying to do 🙃).

you load your EU preset -> you add your addon(s) -> you click update ... no need to create a new preset with the same name.

Let me know please because i can certainly try to improve it if a critical option is missing.

thank you.

For some reason I don't see the 'Update current preset' option. I have version 0.5 of the AddonsLinker that I downloaded today. Perhaps I'm not updating the AddonsLinker ver correctly -- I see ver 0.5 under About. Here's what I see -- what am I doing wrong?

it's in the 'mouse right-click' menu when you are in the addons list, you should see it there. Let me know.

Ah, I see now. Sigh.  I think you need something to make users aware of that right-click menu. Some kind of Additional Options icon or perhaps a drop down menu item across the top along with File, Presets, Tools, ... etc.

Thanks!

Al

@Bad_T - Thanks!  I left a comment on your DL post at .to   Using this every flight session!  If you have the capacity, I would love to get the "installed" column back- it was a great overall view for me to quickly see what was and wasn't installed by sorting with that column.

Again, thank-you Sir!

Al yeah some options are a bit hidden and with no manual it doesnt help hehe, i will see how it can be improved 🙃 .. now that you have seen it, does that option do what you wanted or is it still not really as you would have liked it ?

oh cavaricooper i replied there, did not know you had posted here, let me know if it's not clear enough, here it's a bit easier because i can post pictures if needed.

Yes, I think it does what I wanted. The scenario was I download and add a new addon to my addons folder, and then wanted to add that to an existing named preset.

Another thought. As the number of presets grow, and as the size of the presets grow, it would be helpful to know the name of the currently applied preset (which might be the last applied preset from previous sim session).  With large presets it will be hard to just look at which addons are enabled in the addons list and know which preset that is. The current preset seems to be available now as part of the Update current preset item even if grayed out (I assume), but I think a separate Currently Applied Preset or perhaps better a Last Applied Preset informational item in the right click dropdown list, or somewhere, would be useful. I think Last Applied Preset is best because that just says what the program did last. It could be the actual current set of shortcuts in the Community folder is different because of something the user did outside of AddOnsLinker, e.g., 'manually' deleted a shortcut.

Just my 2 cents,

Al

yes Al someone already asked for that (or maybe it was you ?, i wrote down the suggestion but not the name of the user who requested it so not sure). It's in my list of 'to-do' but it's a bit difficult for different technical reasons so, for now, it was not implemented. I'm still not very sure how i will do it, i'll probably find a way to do that properly fairly soon hopefully.

for info, the option is disabled until you select a preset, when you select one, it will then be enabled and you can update. In my mind it really works a bit like a Word document (like explained in the post above). You open your preset by applying it, when its opened then you can modify it and save it with one click. As long as it's not opened, the 'update' option is not available.

There are probably ways to improve that but, for now, it's still not 100% clear in my mind 🙃. Maybe there should be a different screen where you can update open and modify preset without applying them, it would need be a bit more work but maybe that would be more user-friendly.
