Ah... the reasons, well I'm not an aerodynamics engineer nor a real life pilot I just have 33 years of experience in flight sims and for me X-Plane just have this flying feeling factor that is superior for me, there are lots of information on the net to back up the technology behind X-Plane, I see @mSparks suggested a nice way for demonstrating the aerodynamics capabilities of this sim. October 14, 20205 yr Yes Yes. 😄 I too have been an avid FSX Steam flyer since 2014 as i am a real single engine pilot as well. My best friend has always used X-Plane and he tried to get me to switch years ago, but FSX was so easy to setup and more user friendly to me who is not computer literate at all. But then the new MSFS2020 came out and i was done with FSX Steam. But me too got into flying it and there were so many bugs and the aero dynamics did not feel real to me at all. Now FSX did not feel as real either compared to flying the real planes but it was close enough for me to enjoy. Well i got rid of FSX when i switched to MFS 2020. So I lost all my settings, flights and the months of setting things up. I did not want to go back to FSX anymore. So i took my best friends advise and installed X-plane 11 and bought several planes and scenery files for my state and man, i am so glad i switched. The only thing i can say i don't really like about X-Plane compared to FSX is the Track IR is so very sensitive compared to FSX. The movements are very.... well hard to explain but it's ok once i get used to it. I can make it work for the most part. But other than that, the planes fly and taxi so much like the real planes i fly. So yes i have to agree. I wish i switched or never used FSX in the past. So i'm using X-Plane most of the time now. I am trying to get Pilot2ATC to work on my system because i don't care for the ATC in X-Plane compared to FSX so once i can figure out how to get that installed and working/setup on my machine, that will make things way better when flying IFR.
October 14, 20205 yr I was very much excited about MSFS when it was anounced on 2019. I played FSX from 2007 to 2009, I loved it so much because it gave me the impression how it would feel flying a real plane. It was fascinating moving in three directions, correcting the nose and airplanes position because of windy conditions, or focusing my view most of the time on the PFD, doing calculations, flight planning. I haven`t tried FS2020 and I will never do it. It`s a real bad product. Full of mistakes but the worst thing is that it just feels like an Arcade game. Like Ridge Racer or GTA V. It`s a shame. Microsoft should have never ever contracted Asobo. Well, how I came in touch with X-Plane. On march this year I couldn`t resist any more and wanted to transition the waiting time of FS. I was very impressed of X-Plane, altough strangely enough it felt like how I remembered FSX was. But after I had re-installed FSX (just for one day) I realized the physics of X-Plane are way way better than FSX. It just feels like when rolling the plane in X-Plane, you could feel every tenths degree of rate change. The controls are sensitive in a way that they give such a great input. Not to forget the rudders work as they should do, opposed to FSX. I`m very happy that we have Laminar Research and it`s really great that they have so many videos explaining the technical points of X-Plane. I have never seen a mess like MSFS and I have never seen a development team promising so many things, but doing in reality the opposite. What I really hate were the discussions on MSFS before it was released, there is no need to complain because FS2020 has legacy physics implemented. In reality, they even messed up the legacy physics. For me, the Asobos are pretty much a bunch of fools.
October 14, 20205 yr Asobozos 🤣 Well yes, I'm still giving MSFS a chance but they are ruining that sim patch after patch after patch... But when I fire up X-Plane again that comfy feeling of being at home is unmatched, glad we have X-Plane. Alexander Colka

Having said that I have tried it (at a cost of £110) and although it has a lot of good points, I still prefer X-plane. Mick

Personally There's this thing called Youtube, where real people share their actual experiences (not just advertise products) You can use it, for example, to watch Microsoft claiming every button in the default aircrafts work like the real thing, and the flight model is absolutely unrivalled. and Real people actually flying in it. Then make up your own mind, without wasting a cent - also enjoying plenty of comedy value along the way. AutoATC Developer

I had expectations, based on past experience with Microsoft and flight simulation. Even they were not met. I made up my mind before it was released, because even if MS hadn't told bare faced lies about the default cockpit functionality (X-Plane having ~ fully functional cockpits in all its aircraft for more than 20 years) the only thing more important than that for a flight simulator in a 2020 world is VR. Mick As mSparks already said, you can make up decisions even just by watching videos. Take a look at this thread: Link This was the first video that was leaked on mid July on the alpha stage of FS. Unfortunately I cannot find it right now in YouTube, but two users made comparisons videos with the same style of flying in X-Plane. That`s the links to the videos: Video 1 Video 2 What you can see in X-Plane: Great wing-flex, great inertia of the plane (it doesn`t turn suddenly), great dampings on landing and even bouncing off in the first video. The leaked video of FS had none of this, too bad there is no link to it. The plane was instantly turning, no wing flex, no damping forces on landing. The plane was smashed into the ground at 240 kt and 170 kt, it was just like a rock falling into the ground. The dynamics on turbulent air in FS is also very bad. The plane just shakes in the air. You can still see this type of physics in FS. This is an example of the horrible physics in FS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDSYZS7maC0 Now if that was not worse enough, their software is full of countless errors, what I also hate were the guys that telled us, PMDG will release a realistical plane and FS will be the ultimate simulation. In reality, PMDG cannot even begin developing a plane in FS, because the SDK is messed up. For me FS has turned into an entertainment series, just like watching Al Bundy. Thankfully we have X-Plane.

Sorry decisions on how good or bad a simulator is cannot be made from videos, they are just one persons impression. To say "It`s a real bad product. Full of mistakes" when you have never tried it is ridiculous. Particularly when it can be had on a game pass for next to nothing. Mick

Mick We're not talking "review/sales videos" here, we are talking about actual "in sim" recordings of what MSFS pilots have to endure. e.g. vs Which can quite easily and validly be used to judge MS's brand new flight simulator isn't even as good a simulator as x-plane was 18 years ago. And if Microsoft were in charge of them, they would release the next Gran Turismo without accelerator pedals and GTA 6 without firearms - and you lot would still make excuses for them and tell us to give them our money Edited October 15, 20205 yr by mSparks AutoATC Developer
