You seem determined to see Xplane buried do you work for MS$. I havnt purchased a single airport for xplane and wont, I fly planes its a sim, you start at an airport and land there, if it has a little realism im happy.but I like man tidy up the default airports, gives me something to do. I guess im Just old and easily pleased not demanding everything now because I deserve it like the modern generation

Well, it turns out that Greazer isn´t quite content with MSFS, either. He is really looking for the social experience, it seems. Not surprising for someone with his people skills!

Wouldn't those requests be more fit for something like Grand Theft Auto?

I have no idea why anyone would want to simulate sitting on an actual flight as a passenger and watching a movie.... it's bad enough in real-life.... but oh well, everyone wants something different

Many of us always said the re-entering of Microsoft in the flight sim space would be good for XP too

Well, judging by the numbers we see on steam, MSFS drew about 20% of X-Plane users towards it (from 2500 to 2000)

MSFS currently getting about 4x as many people flying it than XP (8000 vs 2000)

So we would need roughly 7% of all MSFS users deciding to move to X-Plane just to offset the balance. Considering that those coming FROM X-Plane can´t be included in the "new users to flightsimming", the number increases to maybe 9%, and for a net gain (plus enough interest to buy third-party) I would think 15% plus is needed - unrealistic.

The draw of new blood into the genre is turning out a lot smaller than anticipated - so the drain of "eyecandy simulator pilots" from X-Plane stays in effect, but the offsetting "lots of new folks getting into flightsimming" isn´t materializing, I think.

So effectively the new competition is just cutting into each other´s profit...it remains to be seen if the new competition is driving the studios to new heights in achieving new realism for the users, some people think that LR and LM have been doodling away not doing much just because they could...

My take is that the bottom line will be the users suffering from the fracturing of an already small base number which will curtail studios ability to invest in resources to further the development (or withdraw altogether because corporate board predictions don´t materialize).
