ORBX Pacific NW and Northern Rockies

Featured Replies

I had bought Northern and Southern CA along with Central and Northern Rockies back in V4 but I didn't even reinstall them when I upgraded to V5.  I am also 100% airliner flying and didn't find much benefit and did have some performance issues at least with the California areas.  I find the Global and OpenLC works better on my system which is gathering some age.  Hard to say....I guess if it is a good enough sale you pick one up and try it..??

I am still disappointed that Orbx hasn't, and may never, update MBS International for P3dV5. I am not a programmer, but I don't understand why this is the case.

Cheers, Pete

MBS was developed by Turbulent Designs I believe. For all I know, they stopped developing, hence MBS is not updated... At least that's my guess. In that sense the OrbX store is a little tricky sometimes, as not everything that is sold there is really an 'OrbX release' per se. OrbX is more and more doubling as a publisher, similar to Aerosoft.

Bill Womack (Turbulent Designs) is still alive and well. It appears however that he is spending a majority of his time on ORBX stuff. I am a fan of his KPDX and KACK which he is still supporting.

I ended up getting PNW and NRM as well as GPI airport.  I'm happy with the purchase.  I feel it brought everything together for me.  Only problem with GPI airport is it's one of those V5 airports where dynamic lighting does not work on PBR aircraft.  I guess they haven't updated the fx files for it yet.

The only thing I await from ORBX is their promised update in April, to replace and enhance the bridges they removed from the Vancouver area, including the Lion's Gate bridge. But, they have little relevance on flying lol

Correct, Benjamin. Turbulent Designs announced back in May that the company was exiting from the Flight Simulation market. One of the co-founder's has moved to Orbx as an employee, so whether KMBS ever gets updated is dependent on whether there's a market to support an upgrade and that such an upgrade financially worthwhile, given the shift in emphasis towards MSFS.

Bill Womack's company (iBlueYonder) is unrelated to Turbulent. He has been contracted to some Orbx titles: KVUO, 7S3, 2B2+6B6 and KACK, Flightbeam's KPDX and was down to create KDAL (but that disappeared from trace).

I tried to install KMBS into P3dv5 manually by copying the folder from my P3dv4 setup and dropping it into P3dv5. I also added the Inibuilds exclude file. The airport looks fine, but I have no jetways. Any idea as to how I resolve this? Is there another way to manually install?

Cheers, Pete

@PilotPete99  Anything in this thread helpful to you?  Worst case scenario I would think you could just remove the jetways completely and let gsx build them if you have it?

One of the things I'm noticing since adding PNW, CRM, NRM is that I haven't had to delete any bgl files.  What I mean is all my airports look normal.  I was expecting to have to turn off a bunch of files.  Wonder why?  When I installed true earth florida I had to turn off all the conflicting bgl's with my payware.

there is a sizable sale going on right now.  I have no need to compare this to MSFS since that's easily a year away from being usable for airline operations

Here's a thought:  if you make your home routes restricted to the US west coast you can pick up the entire coast in TruEarth.  This way you can sample some of the MSFS scenery while you remain in P3D airliners.

To be honest I'm satisfied with the megascenery earth/nuvecta combo I have for california and many other of the SW states.  But I was lacking specifically in this part of the NW of the country.  Since I picked up these regions I'm happy with what I have now on a performance vs looks basis.

They're really for low and slow flying and do that very well.  For tubeliners I prefer photoscenery.

I got PNW, NRM and CRM all during various sales. IMO they're still worth the money (especially when purchased discounted) and, taken together, there are of course synergy effects because they all border on each other – that sure makes for a lot of flights in the region. Addon airports generally seem to work very well without any adjustments. I did notice some minor issues, for example houses hanging in the air around Kelowna airport (from FlightSimStudios), cars going off road or into the water instead of continuing on the bridge, etc. Obviously not a deal breaker, but I'm wondering if there is a fix for that.
