November 5, 20205 yr It's only been I think this one day out of 80+ hours w/ no issues, but early this morning no live weather in the UK, nor later in the day in the USA. I rebooted of course but didn't improve the situation. Just wondering if there is something on the user end that can reset or what have you. November 5, 20205 yr I am using REX Weather Force 2020 and quite happy. My winds, winds aloft , clouds, and pressure has been spot on. Perhaps an hour or two delayed, but that is understandable. What is still driving me crazy are ATIS/AWOS. The simulator is not reporting correct cloud layers or surface winds in the airport weather recordings. and lately the surface winds are as much as 180° off. Earlier this week ATIS/AWOS were reporting surface winds at all airports in excess of 45 MPH. There was nothing like that going in real time real world weather. Let me be more clear. The actual surface winds experienced using REX WF 2020 were representative. It was the ATIS/AWOS recordings that were absolutely not representative. November 5, 20205 yr Re REX Weather Force 2020: When you flew was the metar ceiling, viz, surface winds etc correct for the real world metar at the airport even though the atis was incorrect? Dave
November 5, 20205 yr Author I've been pleased w/ stock MSFS Live Weather but as I say it's just not happening today for me at all for reasons unknown to me. Try again tomorrow. November 5, 20205 yr Live Weather was AWOL for me this morning on initial load, which rarely happens. I exited completely, and re-started and I got it the second time. November 5, 20205 yr In a lot of my flying conditions, the stock weather of MSFS is just fine (I love coastal weather and the 360 degrees capability to have different weather condition). But, sometime MSFS live weather feature is just out of sync. If you don't want to pay for the REX product, a free solution is to install the free mod Unreal-Weather which recreate METAR weather at your position: https://unrealweather.blogspot.com/ Caution: setup is a little bit tricky. I use this. It's not plug and play because you have to get a key from the site that serves up the Metar data and then do some tweaks to get the settings you like best, but it's well documented, and once you have it setup, you're done. You don't have to modify any system files, so you just put it into your community folder and you're good to go, once you've modified the configure file to use your key, and set the update settings to your preference. I haven't used live weather for over a month. I find this just as good. I get Thunder and Lightning ONLY when conditions around me warrant. The biggest disadvantage is overseas, when you are over oceans, you won't get updated METAR data, so you'll be stuck with the weather you had at the last METAR before you went too far off shore. It's kind of like the way they did it on FSX, but on steroids. The important thing to remember, is in FS2020, it looks like any other "preset". So you have to choose that preset, like you would choose "clear skies" "few clouds" or whatever. Also in the initial loading screen you won't see any weather. Only after you are placed in the cockpit, you will see it load in about 5 seconds later. Edited November 5, 20205 yr by wthomas33065

Dave Pretty much representative. One flight was off, but I later learned to hold off starting the Weather Force weather synthesis (bottom right, green) until at the "Ready to Fly" stage in MFS 2020. There is a following prompt in Weather Force as well. Have to click both in sequence. Has been good since then. One thing I have not checked is if the G1000 PFD is showing current winds when still on the ground. The winds aloft have been representative. Since ATIS is so flawed I have been taking it for granted that surface winds synthesized by Weather Force are representative of current metars. I watch the departure and destination metars with the FltPlan Go app on an iPad. There are other anomalies in MFS 2020. For instance three days ago when flying the DA62, I had altimeter settings along the route of my flight in the low to mid 30.20's range. The autopilot in the DA62 accurately captured my target altitude of 10,000 ft as 10,000 ft. Yesterday, in a flight in the G58 Baron the altimeter settings along my route were in the low to mid 30.40's range. The G1000 took me past my target altitude of 11,000 ft by about 350 ft. so to 11,350 ft or so, and leveled off there. While in level cruise I set my altimeter to standard pressure of 29.92. The Baron descended and captured 11,000. So there appears to be a glitch in the Baron's AP that it is rooted to standard sea level pressure for altitude capture. November 5, 20205 yr Sometimes a reboot can help, but other times it just seems like the data on the server side is wrong or missing. Recently a lot of us were seeing clear weather with calm winds all over the northeast US for quite a few hours. Eventually it just started working. There were lots of people reporting the same issue here in the same area so I don't think it is our PC. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
November 5, 20205 yr If I reload a saved flight file (due to CTD), often the Live Weather is gone. I have clear skies and 29.92. You absolutely cannot change the weather settings in a reloaded flight. I wish more people complained about this. Saving flights is my way around the CTDs - otherwise I have to use a ridiculous workaround to resume my flight with any weather whatsoever after the CTD. Edited November 5, 20205 yr by NightOfDreams
November 5, 20205 yr Author Hi Folks, I went to the zendesk FAQ and all I needed to do was signout and resign in to the Xbox App, Microsoft Store, and MSFS and now Live Weather connection is restored. I also had noticed but not prior to posting this thread that the Marketplace was also greyed out FYI. Is that done in Flight Simulator, where your username is in the upper right corner? Or through the internet?
November 5, 20205 yr Few days ago I noticed that MSFS has decided to arbitrarily select on my behalf, against my will, the online servers (the list you see when you click on your gamertag at the top-right). It calls itself Automatic. I am in Europe and there’s no reason why it should choose East USA as the server. So I decided to manually select West Europe and tried KETB (where I was getting completely incorrect weather earlier). Looking at the wind direction and speed display in the world map menu and matching it with the current metar and Meteoblue reports, I’d say they matched quite closely and accurately this time around. This is just an initial observation and I need to do more test, and I’m choosing KETB as the testbed for now. So here’s a suggestion: keep an eye on that server list, and manually select the server that’s as close to you as possible. Don’t select “Automatic”, and don’t let MSFS select “Automatic”. Manually select the server right after you launch MSFS for the first time.

Sign out on the Xbox App as well as mentioned.
