November 11, 20205 yr I've been checking https://www.lightningmaps.org/ when I see lightning and it has been showing lightning in the area, so for me until now it's working as it should. November 12, 20205 yr It's the same for me. I did a few flights over Europe, in France, Netherland and again Spain, always the storm. When i look at the exact weather, it's either cloudy or sunny. Weather live does not display the real weather. I think it's necessary to turn to either Weather Preset Pro from ORBX or REX 2020.
November 12, 20205 yr It always amazes me to see members here complain about $20, and then I look at their system specsl.... and how hard they chase the greyhound on performance. It's the principle of wanting what I was promised in the Feature Discovery videos (since I didn't have super secret Alpha/Beta knowledge to know what I was actually getting when I bought MSFS ) and being unwilling to pay for band-aids on things Asobo promised, or being willing to go around forums on the internet telling everyone to go buy another product to fix the failings of MSFS. Especially when there is a free alternative that does exactly the same thing, where how it works is fully documented and you can go talk to the person who did it. Polling METAR data and injecting it into the sim as global weather is stupid simple stuff that sims have been doing since FS9, why pay $20 for it when someone has done it for free? November 12, 20205 yr Did a short flight in the CJ4 with Live WX from KTPA to KSRQ and the area was getting hammered with heavy rains and wind at the time from TS Eta. I was very impressed with the Live WX depiction....pretty much spot on. And the most important part was that there was no thunder and lightning (no thunderstorms IRL either). I then did a flight from Baltimore to Columbus OH and there was a lot of rain around KBWI. Cloud tops were pretty high..broke out around FL300. Also no thunder and lightning and it correctly depicted the heavy rains. All the clouds gradually cleared out exactly as depicted on the satellite map on the trip west and landed with clear WX....spot on. My first impressions after the patch is the Live WX is working very well and they have quite possibly fixed the lightning/thinder issue..!! It works moderately well. It will inject thunder and lightning if thunderstorms are indicated by the METAR. You have to sign up to get a "hobby" key to have the ability to fetch 4000 METAR reports a day, which is more than sufficient for this program. I personally like it and fly it whenever Live Weather is messing up. It will even set up a "transition" condition that will interpolate a weather condition between the previous METAR and the current one to appear more organic. The developer recommends not enabling the "aerosol" setting as that can cause a real hit to FPS due to the way the aerosol effects are rendered in MSFS, and that it will continue to do so during the entire transition period. But if the aerosol effects are really important to you, you can set the transition time to be like 1 second, but then the new weather condition will drop like a hammer fall. Consider it like the 15 minute weather update from FSX on steroids. It's also important that this is not true dynamic weather, it is static weather that is updated regularly using METAR reports on the ground. Personally for my flying, I fetch a new METAR every 10 minutes. I let it transition over 5 minutes, and then stay at the new setting for 5 minutes before fetching another report and it works pretty well for me, the transition is gradual enough that it doesn't totally take me out of the sim. I don't deal enough with fog to worry about it, and I have had plenty of flights with limited visibility even with aerosol effects turned off. Your mileage may vary, but it's free. Thanks for the heads up. Was afraid of the lack of transitions. Looks like someone was able to massage an acceptable transition procedure from what your posting. Will check it out. November 12, 20205 yr Author Took off from NFFN with no forecasted lightning, yet the instant sim loaded heard thunder and saw lightning with live weather.
