Water Masks - Comparison

Honestly I have never understood this point. Coral and tidal waters are imagery as a wheat field or a marshland...

The problem I think is that in most areas their imagery of coastal water isn’t any good, so they decided to exclude it by default rather than having a few nice spots and many ugly shorelines. Now they have to browse through the entire globe and decide for each place if it has suitable imagery and then tag it somehow. That might explain why it‘s taking so long. At least that‘s how I understand it. Maybe it‘s also not that high on their priority list.

What I dont get is that Asobo mentions the addition of a watermask in France (in the latest hotfix)

You have to look for its, it's a tiny patch, absolutly unimportant, not only to mention in release notes, also to have.

It was mentioned because they showed it in the world update trailer but it wasn’t there when the world update released.

It‘s a bit ridiculous I agree. I think it‘s because there was a bit of an outcry over this particular piece of land on the forum as it had been shown off in the trailer but wasn‘t in the sim. They probably decided to react quickly because they didn’t want the discussion on missing water masks all over again.

Beautiful water masks in Antigua

This location was shown in today's Azure partnership series.

Another one was Hawaii (top is from the video, bottom from the sim):

A lot of the footage in that video was old from previous videos

Bermuda was disappointing the other day.  For an island that has such beautiful costal water it looked lifeless and boring.  Hopefully Asobo will work their way up from the Bahamas.

I notice Bing Maps does have the data, but it looks like it would need a fair amount of work cleaning up.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Yep, Antigua was added with the UK World Update (posted about it a few pages ago). Not sure about Oahu but the masks have been there for a good while too.

It was between the US and UK updates.

Ah okay. I haven‘t followed this topic that closely lately.

I'm hoping for the entire Caribbean & The Bahamas to be covered so that I can start again and this time complete my tour.

Funny you mention this. I flew around Bermuda for the first time the other day and had the same reaction.

For some of those islands they'd need to get better imagery first, if you look at bing some have nothing beyond a few feet from the shore. There's also imagery taken at different times of the day/year so they don't match up.

This is probably why it's hand made instead of automated.
