December 8, 20205 yr I previously read Jan 26th, but the end of January. As a UK flyer, I'm looking forward to it, hoping we get some regional airports photographic cities and improved coastal watermasks. My washlist also includes support for my Logitech Attack3 joystick (unbelievable that Microsoft have ignored such a popular controller) and a glider, though I'm not holding my breath for either. December 8, 20205 yr Moderator Given MSFS can show sloped runways will it model the hump on 05L/23R at Manchester? From the NE end the runway rises to a peak around one third along after which it slopes downwards to the SW end which is 37ft lower than the NE end. Ray (Cheshire, England). December 8, 20205 yr If they can put camels into the sim, I'm sure the humps in the runways should be no problem. Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)
December 8, 20205 yr Yes - the default UK scenery is way better than anything I've ever seen before, but there's always room for improvement - particularly so since the UK is an island, so the coastal scenery is very important. It's along the coast that a a good elevation mesh really makes a difference to cliffs etc. I made some scenery around Cornwall for Aerofly using 1 metre elevation data that was freely available (though rather patchy). You could literally pick out individual boulders on the shoreline. Having said that, I think a 10 metre mesh would produce almost equally good results for most purposes. The Ordnance Survey has some nationwide 5 metre data that it wouldn't allow me to use for free, but maybe Microsoft/Asobo can get hold of it at a price? I think the default generic houses etc are great - the colour palette is certainly right for the bulk of England. Having ventured a bit into Wales, however, I am beginning to wonder whether any adjustment has been made for the "Celtic fringe" and more northerly parts of England where there are more stone and whitewashed houses, particularly in rural areas. Perhaps others who have flown more widely can answer this. It would be great too if there was some way of picking out whether a building is ecclesiastical or not. A few generic churches would make a big difference. I'd second the point about the Logitech Attack 3. I've been reduced to using an Xbox controller. I say "reduced" but actually it works rather well!

In the last Q&A they said it would be 50cm - 2 metres. As for buildings, they said it‘d include new procedural buildings (around 10 types) and maybe even churches. They also announced a „completely new set of aerials“. see 39:02: i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2

OK thanks - that was really interesting. 50 cm to 2 metres is excellent news - more than I would have hoped for. Also the stuff about churches and cathedrals is great. Re aerial photos ... it's interesting that the UK is one of the few countries (as far as I know) where Bing images are just as good as Google ones. Google is decidedly better for the USA I would say. However I do remember encountering certain problems areas with the UK Bing images when making scenery for Aerofly- bad patches (low res/discolouration) near Southampton and Preston spring to mind. So far I haven't noticed such defects in the MSFS images, so either they're very good at correcting images or they have access to a better source than I had. (Admittedly it's a year or so since I last made any scenery, so things may have moved on.)

December 8, 20205 yr I hope to never see any Asobo UK scenery update. Only because we already have a hundred strips, a couple dozen regional and maybe 12 major airport updates available as freeware which are rated at least 4.5 stars in feedback. I'm sure the update will break some of the veritable plethora UK enhancements that I have installed. All the stately new bridges may be falling down :(. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. December 9, 20205 yr I put a request / bug report to Zendesk to say that the south coast is very unrealistic. No white cliffs at either Dover or further west in East Sussex. IMO these are quite important landmarks. It’s because of the low resolution of the elevation mesh, I think. Zendesk marked my request as "fixed" a few days ago. Not sure whether it actually will be.
