December 23, 20205 yr Overall I like the effect, it will sure beat flying over green terrain in the northern Winter. I read complaints earlier about having green trees sticking out like a sore thumb over the snow...I'm seeing trees with snow scattered on them so that looks pretty good to me. One tweak I'd like to see is to buy some virtual snow plows both for the airfields and city streets. Both are fully covered in snow as show in the shots below. These fully snow covered runways are going to be hard to find on approach. I wonder if they tweaked how snow/icing impacts flight dynamics? I tried to do a flight out of Calgary-Springbank (CYBW) where it is currently snowing. Upon loading my Bonanza was covered in snow. Deicing on, I attempted to take off and the aircraft would barely climb. Aerodynamic impacts of icing? More experimentation needed. I know it's a somewhat high altitude airport but I should have been able to climb with a lightly loaded Bonanza. Here are a few shots at Revelstoke to illustrate the trees and snow covered airports/streets as mentioned. If you look really closely you can see the runway markings below me Dave Current System (Running at 4k): ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F, Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 5090, 55" Samsung Q80T, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, EVGA CLC 280mm AIO Cooler, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS & Stick, Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant & Add-on, VirtualFly Ruddo+, TQ6+ and Yoko+, GoFlight MCP-PRO and EFIS, Skalarki FCU and MCDU
December 23, 20205 yr my first thoughts on the snow : looks good . Ill be really worry about the snow if we was talking about a snow plowing simulator but thats not the case . Image removed as image is no longer available.
December 23, 20205 yr Author Interestingly I’m currently flying out of Iqaluit CYFB and the runway is clear, though the taxiways are snow covered. It would appear there is some snow clearance algorithm going on in the background for some airports (maybe just larger ones?) December 23, 20205 yr Snow plows working the runways and taxiways would be cool. i9-13900K @ 5.8Ghz / Asus TUF 4090 OC / 32 GB DDR 5 / Corsair 1000W PS / Pimax Crystal / 2 SATA SSD / 2TB M2 SSD/ DOF Reality H3 motion platform/ Win 11

Interesting, both Revelstoke and Iqaluit (the extend of my snow travels so far) are asphalt runways, though the Canadian Flight Supplement does note that Revelstoke has limited winter maintenance...that has to be a coincidence though. December 23, 20205 yr Author I wonder if it's a combination of runway type and maybe length? Maybe even snow depth? December 23, 20205 yr I flew up to Thunder Bay YQT from Ottawa and ForeFlight said -SN 3SM OVC006 and there was no snow any where, not even on the ground. Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom

December 23, 20205 yr We are joking about snow plows... but seriously... in my area some of my local fields are hard to even find now because they are snow covered. Similar to Revelstoke shown here. Its a real issue... I like the effect too. Looks good. There are a few oddities... like if you find rock face cliffs, the snow texture over them looks very odd. Also, I see Ice in the ocean, where there is never ice.

I was expecting like all other FS versions before this one that during this time of the year you can just go to a place like Fargo and see winter not wait for actual snow fall for the ground to be covered. Again I must be missing something. FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

Again I must be missing something. Snow is based on their weather provider, Meteoblue. It's not on and off like previous Microsoft Flight Sims. According to Meteoblue's data, there should be snow on the ground at Hibbing. Guess there are some kinks in the system. https://www.meteoblue.com/en/weather/webmap/beta/range-regional-airport_united-states-of-america_5021092#coords=11.17/47.3967/-92.8356&map=snowDepth~hourly~auto~sfc~none Maybe it's not showing snow under a certain height. I suggest submitting a bug report on Zendesk, show in sim screenshots compared to the Meteoblue data. Edit: i found a tiny bit of snow to the north west Edited December 23, 20205 yr by Tuskin38
December 23, 20205 yr Author One thing I noticed is that live weather has to be working for the snow cover to show up. I started a second flight without restarting the sim and had no real weather, hence no snow.
