December 24, 20205 yr Having held out until Live Weather had snow, I finally made my first ever snow flight in MSFS. I simply didn't want to do it until it was more or less true to life. I flew from CYCA Cartwright to CYYR Goose Bay as it allowed me to fly over some of the deeper snow currently shown in Canada. Very impressed. I started off from a snow-covered runway, climbed to 3000 feet and saw the trees with a good covering of the white stuff. Then the weather turned nasty and I was in a whiteout. That was followed by actually seeing some streaks of snow falling in front of me. By the time I was on final to Goose Bay, I couldn't see the runway until I was about 2.5 miles away, and frankly, I feel the tower should have prevented me making a VFR landing in my Caravan. But I was welcomed in. I saw the approach lights clearly enough however, and made a reasonably smooth landing on the completely white runway. I could just make out the centre line as I taxied. Likewise, the taxiways were completely white but I could just make out the centre-line (the mini taxi ribbon mod was a big help though). They must have been concerned about me though as there was a fire engine waiting for me. Unfortunately, I had to taxi through it to get to my parking slot! The only issue I had was shortly after engaging the AP, when the plane just fish-tailed on and off course. I had to disengage and restart the AP for some reason. Apart from that, I like what they've done so far.👍 12 hours ago, sd_flyer said: Canada is a place to fly for a snow in US 🙂 Are you trying to get the White House burned down again with that comment?😱 😄 Edited December 24, 20205 yr by 109Sqn 3000 feet, not 300 OS: Win11 Home; Mobo: Asus TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WiFi D4; CPU: Intel i5-12400 (Alder Lake) 4.4 GHzRAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 64Gb (4x16GB) 3600 MHz; GPU: MSI Radeon RX 5700XT [8GB] SSD: Corsair Force MP510 (for OS); 2x 1TB & 1x 2TB Sabrent Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 (one for sim, two for addons)HDD: Seagate 3TB (Data); Seagate 1TB (Programs), ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B Curved 31.5" monitor, 1440p, 38Mbs ethernet Fulcrum One Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo throttle, Thrustmaster Airbus TCA sidestick & throttle, Logitech Pro pedals, Xbox wireless gamepad (1st gen)
December 24, 20205 yr I like that frozen over water doesn't just end at a solid line, it breaks up Edited December 24, 20205 yr by Tuskin38
December 24, 20205 yr Author Very cool! I did a flight from YHZ-YQM today and there were traces of snow on the ground as I got closer to Moncton, ie in the corner of a field where it might have been piled up or blown etc...it was cool to see and might be how the sim deals with the very lowest levels of snow? December 25, 20205 yr So they improved the snow, so now it appears on the top of every object (except sim objects, so it won't appear on Player/AI planes, jetways and airport traffic stuff like that), but that also means it will appear inside objects, so you'll have snow on the floors of custom scenery that have modelled interiors. It also appears on road traffic, including windshields, so if you get close enough you'll see cars that can't possibly see the road in front of them. Edited December 25, 20205 yr by Tuskin38

As a New Yorker I can confirm this is a feature not a glitch. Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Yeah I've been driving in Finland and my windshield started(and kept) icing on the inside, with the heater turned on... December 27, 20205 yr CYMO has a big ol' frozen river next to it right now if you want to try ice landing Also for for the heck of it, in game vs a winter satellite image Edited December 27, 20205 yr by Tuskin38

I read complaints earlier about having green trees sticking out like a sore thumb over the snow...I'm seeing trees with snow scattered on them so that looks pretty good to me. One tweak I'd like to see is to buy some virtual snow plows both for the airfields and city streets. Both are fully covered in snow as show in the shots below. These fully snow covered runways are going to be hard to find on approach. I wonder if they tweaked how snow/icing impacts flight dynamics? I tried to do a flight out of Calgary-Springbank (CYBW) where it is currently snowing. Upon loading my Bonanza was covered in snow. Deicing on, I attempted to take off and the aircraft would barely climb. Aerodynamic impacts of icing? More experimentation needed. I know it's a somewhat high altitude airport but I should have been able to climb with a lightly loaded Bonanza. Here are a few shots at Revelstoke to illustrate the trees and snow covered airports/streets as mentioned. If you look really closely you can see the runway markings below me I had a similar issue. Yesterday I was taking off on runway 26, Cape Lisburne Alaska (PALU) with snow and wind, icing conditions as well, visible on my windshield until I got the Caravan started up and taxiing. I made sure all checklist items were ticked, 1 notch flaps, and began my takeoff roll. I could not get my speed up past 50 kts. I got a stall warning half way down runway, a pilot should abort takeoff, but because it was a sim I tried and I lost all control with the stall warning continuing. I thought the Caravan was an All - Weather beast, actually built for conditions like this. BTW I had de-icing on for quite a while before takeoff. So, I believe icing conditions maybe are over- done in MSFS2020. I tried the takeoff 3 times and gave up. It’s almost like, if there are extreme icing conditions I cannot fly any default MSFS2020 prop aircraft. Maybe I am missing a step somewhere in my aircraft setup that is causing this.
