The real question is what CPU will be best placed to deal with MSFS' workflow once its multi-threading capability is improved.
I was thinking to get the Ryzen 5900X. However, it has *only* 6 cores per CCX (albeit 2 CCXs), whereas the 5800X has an 8-core CCX. Despite the 5900X's more cores, plus much higher L2 and L3 cache, some games have given better test results on QHD using the 5800X.

Since the 5900X has two CCXs it also potentially means more latencies, a bit similar to the 6- and 8-core Zen 2 parts, if usage exceeds 6 cores (though I'm not even sure if the Windows scheduler can limit core usage to one CCX if the same or fewer cores are used, what's for sure is that it's still not very well optimised for Ryzen). This means that the 5800X could have the edge in lightly-threaded situations.

There is a very small amount of games that is highly-threaded, being able to use more than 8 threads, and in these situations even the 3900X has the clear lead over the 10900K. Though personally I feel that even with DirectX 12 and upcoming main thread optimisations the simulator will not ever reach a point where adding more than 8 cores will provide an advantage, but you never know.

If possible, I would recommend waiting for as long as possible. As they optimise the simulator you will know better which CPU is the sweet spot, the supply situation can only get better as AMD start allocating more wafers for their CPUs and GPUs rather than the console APUs, Rocket Lake-S could force AMD to drop prices or introduce cheaper SKUs (unless some of those horrifying performance and price leaks are true, in that case Intel are totally screwed), and right now Zen 3 AGESA is really buggy, creating lots of headaches especially for those with overclocked RAM.

If you need to upgrade now, it depends on your usage. The 5800X is terrible value at $450, but if you are using your system only for simulators then you should be quite fine with it, due to the additional cores not bringing any real benefit, and the single CCX reducing latencies to a minimum (in that case the 5600X could be quite enough, but who knows what the future holds). But if you are playing other games or doing content creation, the 5900X should last you a lot better during this console generation, and 4 extra cores for $100 is a no-brainer.

I'm sorry I guess I'm dense. When is the next patch going to be released and what is contained in it. World updates, Sim updates. What is a twitch. Two Different Feedback snapshots with same dates but different items.

Can someone explain how this protocol works.

The first one is the top reported bugs, the second one is a wish list.

Sometime in the first week of January February is the current estimation, and it's a World Update focusing on The UK and Ireland.

1. UK World Update on 2 February, Sim Update 3 on 23 February (subject to delay), Sim Update 4 maybe on March (no final date yet).

2. The UK World Update will include a World Update for the United Kingdom (new imagery and mesh, updated airports and landmarks, new photogrammetry cities and new landing challenges), as well as fixes for the terrain spike bug and grainy clouds. Sim Update 3 will bring improvements to the G1000, G3000, autopilot and live weather readings. Sim Update 4 will bring improvements to turboprop engine logic and ATC phraseology.

3. Twitch is a live streaming platform. On the simulator's official channel (https://www.twitch.tv/msfsofficial), you can tune in at the given times to watch flight lessons, community fly-ins, guided tours and developer Q&As, all arranged by the community manager.

4. Regarding the Feedback Snapshot, the first slide includes the top-voted items from the "Bugs & Issues" category in the official forums, while the second slide includes the top-voted items from the "Wishlist" category. In there you can create your own bug report or wish, and upvote the ones you agree with for better visibility.

Are they scrapping the weather SDK or is it not planned for the foreseeable future? A bit concerning.

Guilty as charged, and yet I'm not the only one.
It wasn't that long ago we had a number of complaint threads. And from people usually supportive of MSFS...

If Asobo achieve what Sebastian set out in the aerodynamics video, I'll be very happy.

They never had plans for a weather SDK.

Yeah they’ve been pretty firm on not opening up the weather system to third party devs for whatever reason.

I'm guessing there is proprietary code or maybe meteoblue stuff in there they can't legally open up.

That would make sense, especially given how open they’ve been to at least look into most requests, this one has been a hard no.

They should be doing this same sort of thing with Garmin code IMO.
