A bit harsh about the Forth Bridges, they look great for free scenery!

I don't think so. I wasn't raging about them, just pointing out they aren't blending in quite enough. But that's a problem with most scenery add-ons to some degree or other. The actual modelling is very nice and I'm happy with the look of that. When you see those bridges as often as I do, you can't help but want as much perfections as possible for your (no extra) money!😉

That was because there was some sunlight occurring. Clearly the developers have never been to Scotland if they think there is sunlight in Scotland. 🤣

Similar could be said of anywhere though.  Where I am, we're in the middle of winter.  It's the longest 364 days of the year.

Yeah, thanks, I noticed that one. I should have said, "Do we know the other photogrammetry areas?"😄

5 of the following cities, plus London (or if I've misunderstood the developer comment, 5 of the following, of which London is confirmed as one).

MetroVista™ cities captured include:

  • Birmingham

  • Bournemouth

  • Brighton

  • Bristol

  • Cambridge

  • Cardiff

  • Derby

  • Doncaster

  • Eastbourne

  • Leicester

  • London

  • Manchester

  • Newcastle

  • Norwich

  • Nottingham

  • Oxford

Wow, yes, you’re absolutely right. It has been a few years since I was over that part of the world😅

The aerodynamics video really showed commitment to improve  it even further.   A chunk of people out there complain about it, but I imagine this will take a while to get just right.   Lets face it, this is a massive improvement coming from a single point of contact in FSX/P3D.  Im not going to comment on the accuracy because im not a real world pilot, but flying most of the aircrafts in MSFS have that feel that is much more logical and what you would expect from an aircraft interacting with wind, and air currents.  And im not about to doubt 6000 hours of flying experience on the team about aerodynamics.  For me this ongoing improvement and commitment steers it away from any sort of gammification flying and keeps it heavily onto the simulation side of things.

Exactly my feeling. Such a massive shift of simulation tech from the FSX one. As a developer I think its very bold too as the re-assembling of all those forces so that they actually produce the effect of reality you're aiming and hoping for is quite a challenge. I wonder too if its a big challenge for developers. Some great planes are developed by one or two man teams rather than a room of engineers with wind tunnel data. So, creating tools for 3rd parties to produce realistic stuff must be a big part of the challenge.

Bournemouth

that one would be pretty cool. covid permitting my oldest plans to attend school there beginning next autumn term. but we'll see how things developed. at least I could take her for a virtual spin around bournemouth then

Good to see that the third party devs have all the tools to create realistic flight models on their aircraft - no excuses if the tools are good👍

I have a feeling the Xbox 1 version will get binned, it’s blatantly not up to scratch without major sacrifices.

photogrammetry - really hope they spread out the areas, FSELite - Calum have a word mate hint hint 😁👌

Really interesting video of the technology what is inside this sim and what to come, and also somehow incredible what can be done at today`s standard.

And this also looks fine for me, long waited for that one..

  • Visual Effects Editor is in an UX/UI refinement phase. The first available effects will be contrails and landing smoke effects. They will be customizable through the editor.

I still can`t go on with that mirrored texture thing as "not planned" i don't understand the reason behind it.. 😒

cheers 😉

Personal takeaways from the feature discovery episode:

  • I always wondered what happened to those "over 1000 surfaces". Now at least I know that the displayed forces are only a subset of what is actually calculated - ambitious enterprise.
  • The flight model is a priority to them.
  • They have expert consultants (commercial and military ex-pilots, engineers)
  • None of them seemingly told them, that the planes feel like RC planes. Still too responsive! Already during take off roll (rudder)!

I know I shouldn't get my hopes up until it's been delivered and tested by everyone, but I am hugely encouraged by this new aerodynamics Feature Discovery video.

Some questions:

  • 1,306 surfaces simulated (subset of overall calculation) over 32 CPU threads - is the Ryzen 5950X going to be the 'must have' CPU?
  • Is the rotational movement of propwash over the rear surfaces simulated, or is it only airspeed dependent?
  • Is icing simulation going to be pared back? Looks and feels exaggerated.
  • Will Asobo get one of the former Red Bull Air Race pilots in for some QA testing?
Would be some great marketing to have
Péter Besenyei, Paul Bonhomme or local Nicolas Ivanoff give their feedback.

Overall, if Sebastian's comments about the sim come true, I'll be very happy.
