Love the flight Sim BUT !

Featured Replies

Been flying now for about a month and I must this FS is brilliant, the graphics are outstanding and the experience of flying is amazing. However I do am some issues, can you people let me know if you have the same issues or is it just me ?

Not in any priority order but ATC is often strange, ie when in flight, cancel IFR flight plan at this time, why ? on approach increase height to 10,000 when about 15 miles from touchdown, really ? co -pilot cancel IFR at this time, why ?  Co -pilot can take off follow course then just wonders off course I have no idea why ?   Push back at departure takes no consideration of any vehicle close to the aircraft. Push back does not happen often even though the tug is under the front of the aircraft. Walk way to the aircraft after landing is often not connected to the aircraft even though I have parked close enough for it to be connected. I have even had a building appear on the runway !!  Finally the experience would be so enhanced if only we could get ATC to speak in the country we are flying over in the local accents, Flying over the UK the American accent is so unrealistic. Anyway for all that still enjoy the experience.

Airplanes, AI Traffic, Flight Dynamics, ATC, water mask, scenery spikes,  NONE of this works as advertised much of it is not even on Asobos radar. Without mods we would all be occasionally flying VFR and nothing else

Most if not all the topics you mention are bugging many of us. IFR cancellation happen e.g. when you do not set/confirm the asigned Squawk codes. Which also here sometimes happens if my co-pilot forgets to answer ATC and dial in the new code. In general ATC is buggy and I tend to fly (file at least) VFR only to avoid ATC interference and "do my own thing", works best when selecting the STAR and approach to the final RWY. As for the co-pilot, I never let him fly. There are know issues IMO even confirmed by Asobo. For me the other things (jetway, push back truck etc) are eye candy and usuallly I spawn on the rwy anyway to save me some time (I am one of those who still work full day and usually I start a flight while in home office and let the AP fly until I take over for landing)

Some of those things are on the MS list to fix others may need addons eventually.

To be honest there is no AI controlled ATC etc that is ever going to be like real life. if you want proper ATC you need to subscribe to something that has real people doing the ATC like vatsim or Pilotedge.

Here is a video by that Canadian Dash 8 pilot Emilie on using Pilotedge -

I just stopped using the default ATC since it always lands me on a runway with a tailwind, or does something stupid

Really a shame it hasn’t been improved much since FSX and as far as having different voices it’s worse!

I guess Aboso figures the Xbox crowd doesn’t care much for realistic ATC!

Never used it for months, got fed up with being on approach and told to climb to 13k, or generic this, or generic that.

If I recall correctly, when MSFS was first announced, ATC was not even planned for the initial launch. They ended up including "something" because of the immediate negative feedback. Unfortunately that "something' is far worse than the old FS8/9/10 ATC ever was (That old ATC may have been simplistic, but it did a lot of things right). Their first plan to omit ATC until they could do it right was probably a better idea. I wouldn't recommend using it in the current state, but for the casual user that doesn't know any better, I suppose it doesn't matter.

It looks like "Incorrect ATC phraseology" is on the development roadmap. But phraseology is only part of the problem. As you correctly observed, they need to address some pretty goofy logic as well. I'd say that should be an even higher priority than simply fixing the phraseology.

yeah, they apparently expected ATC to be provided by aftermarket addons and Vatsim .  In the early talks they said a lot of features were deliberately left out to provide room for aftermarket partners, which would have been fair enough if they provided those partners with a working SDK 😄

Yes, ATC often isn‘t of much use. I usually use it just to have some chatter in the background and ignore it as soon as it gives me weird instructions.

because you failed to respond. Why is this surprising?

My advice to MS

Outsourcing.

Features that have been outsourced are done with great success (MeteoBlue, BlackShark AI)

For ATC  - find a capable company  in that  field and implement their turnkey solution.

And for anything else that is missing, don't be cheap and wait for some other company to produce something impressive on their skimpy budget.

Idly waiting for 3rd party solutions made by people who do this in their spare time is a cheap and loser strategy.

What is the perspective of one-man-show enhancements? Years of slow development until they get sick or fired at their jobs and the whole thing is stopped or waiting for a studio people who got fed up and have 3 other games in development.

ORDER a module and PAY for it. Than have that WOW effect from users and than MAKE some cash as new users FLOCK in from the CRUSHED competition.

Instead you choose to KEEP  the money from the initial hype to yourself, TRICKLE  the development to third party and freeware, and ENDURE the tons of justified criticism for the slow development and have have competition SNEER at you as incapable giant.

Sorry for the caps To me it seems so obvious which path is right.

"Without mods"... and how does this make MSFS different than anything else out there?  Its the nature of the beast.
