What the truck...

Featured Replies

Almost finished painting this little RC truck. Still need to add a few bits, but it's starting to look pretty good.

Neat! Looks like the manfacturers of the model based it on a hybrid of a PLA Jiefang CA-10 and CA-30. But if you're making a decommissioned civvie version you probably should have painted it in that apparently abundantly available faded sky blue. At least that seemed to be the only colour apart from olive that I saw on these beasts during my trip around China back in '95... 😉

Yeah I kind of ummed and aahed about the colour to do it, but I wanted it to look a bit well used and I saw this pic and thought the colour was interesting:

Right - judging from that picture rust it is. Although... - is it really? Etienne, a friend of mine has actually painted his 2cv "rusty"

He's one of the niche group of rat-2cv aficionados. The cars are technically kept in best state and any real rust on the body is carefully conserved under clear lacquer, so that it does not spread or damage important parts... The main thing is that they look like they just crawled out from under some bales of hay after being stored in a shed for several decades. 😄

I kinda like the red.  The color looks like primer.  It's possible that they simple left everything at the primer coat.

And hey, it's not unattractive. 🙂

If you look at the body of the most distant truck on that picture of those CA-30s parked in the grass at the Chinese Aviation Museum, you can see that most of the colour is red oxide primer; it has gone somewhat pink in the sunlight on the door in the body of that truck, so it's definitely not rust overall. On the nearer truck, you can see there are several rust spots breaking out on the bonnet of that one which is more brownish in colour, so I think it is mainly primer paint on them.

Anyway, here's mine with some more mud painted on it. Still need to make reg plates for it and tart up a few details, but it was fun watching my cats freak out as it drove around the living room last night. 🤣

Too cool!

The most fun you can have with RC vehicles:

1. Racing
2. Tormenting your cats
3. Dueling with attached balloons and knives. 😄

Not necessarily in that order.

Nice job Al!

I keep thinking about buying one of these - a trial truck 6x6, loosely based on a Dodge Power Wagon, or at a push, perhaps a Zil which did have 6x6.
