MSFS launches extremely slow - Solution

Featured Replies

I had a really weird problem the last few days. I figured out the solution, so I wanted to make a thread so that others with similar issues could find the solution.

My simulator would launch, but it would be extremely slow. So slow in fact I thought it bugged out and froze completely. I decided to have some more patience and let it run and see if it would even get to the menu.
I tried launching the sim from Store, from desktop icon, as an admin etc. Nothing helped.

After launching the sim, it would take about 10 seconds to see the white frame, then just a black screen with the rotating loading symbol in the lower right corner. Except it wasn't even rotating.
5-10 minutes of waiting brought me to the intro screens with the Asobo logo, Blackshark and so on. After that it would take 7-10 minutes to get to the Monument Valley loading screen.
But after the sim had actually loaded, the sim would behave normally and I could go fly.

Turns out the issue were two mods (of course).

Solution was deleting "Bryce Canyon" mod and "Monument Valley" mods. They were a couple of gigabytes each. The sim actually runs through the Community folder mods even from startup. So when deleting them, the sim is back to normal.

Do you use the Addons Linker and make a symbolic link or have both fully installed in the Community Folder? If the latter, do yourself a favor and get the Addons Linker. Google MSFS Addons Linker and you will find it then in Tonga 😀

It's very easy to install and use. You can also find YT videos how to use it. Good luck.

I have flown with each of those mods loaded, but not at the same time.  I use Addons Linker and swear by it.  But even with the Addons Linker in use positioning the links to the mods, one-at-a-time, for separate flights, the sim load time was still very lengthy each time.  I believe that Bryce Canyon is actually a package of (3) mods.  Monument Valley may be as well.

I have the files in my Community folder, not as links. I will certainly give MSFS Addons Linker a go soon. 🙂 The issue is that I can't copy or move things out of my Community folder, only delete or add things. It's a Microsoft digital rights limitation that happens with certain Windows versions and the MS Store version of MSFS.

Yep, Bryce Canyon was a 3 part package, and Monument Valley was a single package. I think maybe Monument Valley lets your choose from two versions, one with Devil's tower and one without.

I have always had the same issue and tried EVERY internet (from google) solutions with none of them working (ERROR >>> Your organization does not allow you to place this file here. ) Maybe someday I will find a fix.

Yep that's the message I get too.

It started appearing after I updated my Windows 10 from 1903 to 2004 or something like that.
I saw someone mentioning that Microsoft's solution to the problem was to downgrade Windows again.

However I won't do that, because Microsoft doesn't even support the 1903 version any longer. And like most other people, I use my PC for other things than flight simulator.

Let me know if you find a fix! 🙂

The Addon Linker is the fix 😉

Thanks Bert, but here is what I've tried.  According to the tutorial for AddOn Linker, I have to open the Community folder on one side and then open MY new created addon folder on the other side.  I am supposed to grab all the files in my Community folder and move them into my AddOn folder.  This is where the problem is.  These files in "Community" CANNOT be moved because ERROR >>> Your organization does not allow you to place this file here. )

Just go back and capture all of those addons and put them where you wish, then tell addon linker where that is.  Most of those addons/mods have been updated multiple times so grabbing them once again, if that is even needed, is not difficult, and placing them in an efficient place is a piece of cake.  Most users have been able to just move them from Community to a better place and link them from there.

I'm definately going to try the Addon Linker, but here's what I'm doing to get around it at the moment:

I made a folder on a vacant old SSD which I named "FS Addons Community Scrap Folder". So when I download a mod, I put it in the Scrap folder, and then I copy it to the real Community folder. So if I delete the mod from the Community Folder, I still have it in my Scrap folder. That way I get around all the silly Microsoft digital rights shenanigans. If I need to disable a mod to test something, I can just delete it because I have it in the Scrap folder anyway, and copy it back to Community folder if I need to.

The Addon Linker seems like a much more elegant solution though. But I'll have to go through all my mods again.

That is actually the correct way... You install the addons into your personal Addons folder which can be named anything you like.

Then you use the addons linker app to activate and de-activate links in the Community folder. 🙂

Can't remember if that was the actual error message I got in the early days (I've been using the linker for ages now) but I do remember that MOVING files out of the community folder doesn't work for various reasons, but COPYING them and then deleting the originals is fine. It's all to do with the community folder being encrypted.

If all else fails try moving the files around from inside a DOS box instead of from inside Windows. Sometimes that works.

Just type CMD in the box in windows START.
