It amazes me how folk will "comment" and try to belittle others because they think that a thread should have ended, has run its course, or isn't going anywhere...particularly when they sought to "add" to the discussion earlier.

If a thread is worthless, why bother commenting at all??? or is that you are just frustrated because "you" ran out of things to add (or was properly rejected) and are no relevant to the discussion???

I mean, didn't both of you "fly" in here at some point to smell what was cooking, and then tried to add your own flavor???

Silence says much...

Here's a better shot of me on my bike for an advert we did

And the same location in sim (where I land in those videos) - I even put the sun reflection in the same place on the glass for you

Even subjectively whats actually wrong with the second picture in terms of tone mapping?

But I was asking what you think is acceptable?

Are you thinking Quake 2 water

Or GTA5 water

or what?

You must have something in mind?

(Man...haven't been on a supersport in years...switched to streetfighter style bikes and never looked back...)

you must have missed where I said...

So rather than

you want

maxresdefault.jpg

Erm.... OK..... not feeling that to be an improvement myself.

(personally I like motorcross, but they're no good for getting 400euro speeding fines on the German autobahn)

Fair enough...I will go with whatever "you" consider to an "improvement" over what is currently available for XP.

I won't spent much more time than this on the topic of tone-mapping (and I'll add water in the mix), but here are a few screenshot I feel are illustrating these concepts to me.

NB: there are jpeg 8 bits, but when running live on 4K HDR 10 bits the difference with the XP11 tone mapper is even higher.

well.

If they can manage those at a solid 60fps in VR I certainly wont be complaining.

If they can't I'll just be sad, because I can never go back to 2D, no matter how much the 2D looks better than now. And I'm not aware of anyone who has managed it.

I am however not convinced we'll see it in xplane at all, because thats not coming to a mobile device near you any time soon unless its streamed from a stadia like service, and Austin expects there to be no difference between desktop and mobile xplane. Plus afaik, the top end macs do not have gpus capable of that even in 2D, and austin is a mac guy...

They dont even have time to fix the current borken ssao.

Isnt that what every one doing on this forum?? What is there to say. XPLANe is going ahead. Be patient.

I just come here for a laugh, people are far to serious these days.

Edited by mjrhealth

@RXP what tonemapping operator does default X-Plane use? I assume it's standard Reinhard x / (x + 1) curve, but I'm unable to check as it's a lot harder to access raw shader code since 11.50. Using Uncharted 2 (or ACES, but I think its "toe" is too strong) tonemapper with X-Plane is something I really want, I wish there was an easy way to access shader code like before...

PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM.

Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.

So, it "sounds" like you come here expecting this...and I suspect...to dish out a little...belittle...yourself.

But you obviously chose to say more...to belittle folk.

So "everyone" belittles others...and are far too serious.

Given the above...I wonder why you would even bother with this forum. I mean...one could sit back...read the forum...and have a good laugh...without "bothering" to comment.

now now kids, play nice, there is absolutely no need to start slinging mud around. You're both better than that.

@BiologicalNanobot I don't know what they are now using in XP11.50, and I don't remember what it was before (I'll have to look in my archives and I don't want to right now LOL). It could have been Reinhard or Uncharted 2, and my code was adding the one referenced in the blog post I've mentioned prior:

http://filmicworlds.com/blog/filmic-tonemapping-operators/

Here is the link to my post where I was explaining how to manually change the shaders. It comes with a few different implementations and the original code commented out:

The trees in the lower shot perfectly illustrate why X-Plane is in need of modernisation.

actually, the main thing those trees need is someone to make a variety of decent versions, what you can see there is the low poly versions for long distance, they actually look pretty good close up and in VR they work well because the thin quad facing you basically vanishes at that distance.

But I did yell a little at Ben Supnik on slack to please put the trees and vegetation near the top of their list a few months ago, they are much more of an issue than clouds or water for me. Not that I expected it to change his mind or anything, but I'm pretty sure it was before that feedback site went up... Just felt I had to say something at the time.

i would not give any of the flight sims a passing grade for their vegitation though, and in many ways I prefer HD_forests to what I've been seeing in msfs.
