I suspect not, or the answer to that question would be obvious.

All you lot going back and forth over how nice and pretty your 2D wall painting looks.

Meanwhile VR delivers the full home cockpit for every aircraft with motion platform experience for a few hundred dollars instead of a few hundred thousand dollars.

VR done right

VR done badly (presumably hacked on after an msfs suit tried xplane in VR and realised their new sim would be out dated the day it launched without it)

Xplane before vulkan made it a flawless experience (less than 3 months ago)

 

I said it a thousand times now, once you fly in VR you can never fly 2D again.

VR is tempting. But surely no one can keep it on for hours and hours during a fight in, say, a 737? What is there to pass the time? Or maybe they do? But then, if you take it off how do you keep an eye on things?I'm guessing it's more suitable for those who prefer VFR? I do have a TrackIR thing somewhere but don't bother with it.

Same way real pilots keep alert in the real one for hours and hours of flight, run through checklists, talk to ATC, check each of the systems for any sign of failure or emergency situation

watch for traffic in the air and on TCAS.

My longest full VR flight in the 744 in now is 45 minutes, full flight LYBE to LYPG, which I've done a few times now, I'd say most people wouldn't have the physical and mental strength to do much more than that (at least not without a significant amount of practice).

The need to take a break is why I added the FMC to AutoATC, you can pretty much fly it from that while doing other things.

it also only takes a fraction of a second to toggle VR on and off in flight.

You can post 1 million vids...VR is not for everyone...

Back to mass appeal and my point...Do you think that the broader market (where most do not use VR) would prefer "better looking clouds to horizon that don't kill performance" or "VR" (just another view into the current bland / unrealistic looking clouds)?

...the answer to that question should be obvious....

For the first time, among the most popular games of 2019/2020 was a VR title (Beat Saber), so why would you think it doesn't?

We're in a transition, right now even at ~$600 or whatever for the Reverb G2, or $350 for a PSVR, VR is still prohibitively expensive for the broader market,

but still infinitely better value than $20 for the MSFS 737Max,

(gulp,... there is a chance I might be a little addicted.... Although a fair amount of that is spent talking to you bunch of deplorables (j/k'ing) and/or working at the same time)

I expect to see those costs down to the $150-$200 range in the not to distance future (main cost is the screen), inside out tracking for mobile based headsets is required for absolute ubiquity (currently in early beta at google, its technically possible the next xplane mobile version could include TrinusVR/iVRy functionality with inside out tracking).

VR is the future, but yeah, right now not really for poor people or people who don't care about flight sim.

F VR. Sorry but for extended flight, VR is terrible for you. I know the immersion is higher but I care about my eyesight and not vomiting. I also like to read checklist and have add-ons on 2nd screen. VR doesn't work my workload. VR will always be a nice product.

5000 hours in (the reason for the pic) and I have no eyesight problems to report, still 20/20 vision. what evidence are you basing such an inflammatory statement on?

VR is surely a hulluva lot better for you than being stuck indoors in lockdown with nothing more than 10feet away, or staring at a pc screen all day only 2 feet away.

Vomiting isn't the VR, its the framerate in VR, min 60fps, preferably 90fps or bust.

Or the very limited FOV. Eye strain  is what I wa referring too as well. Like I said. I had VR when it wasn't cool. I wouldn't use for flight sim. There isn't enough frame anyway in XP11 or MSFS for matter. Just not for me anymore unless ii's in small doses

Xp11 hates me and  my PC. There isn't a tweak or setting that manages to give a satisfying  experience. At Ultrawide, in Zibo or FF777 I barely get in the 40fps. I think XP11 hates AMD processor

AMD GPU drivers (windows and linux) are a .... erm, yeah... those words test even developer vocabularies, Sidney uses "SOL"

I'm AMD5900X and RTX3070 on Linux

but give the 744 overhaul a try - AIUI I was the first (and only so far) dev to give XP aircraft systems the loving they needed to get VR capable framerates (while the rest were pushing "30fps is fine", because they were to lazy to put the dev time in).

Unfortunately, by design, the MSFS SDK will likely never support such aircraft in VR, they thought about VR much too late in the development cycle.
