That is what I see with LOD set to 100. As I use two 4K displays  as one wide view the eyepoint is more zoomed in than when using just one display.

I always see the border where buildings and trees end. This was better with former updates.

Using a LOD of 200 is very heavy on the system with this wide view.

But tips on how to improve without a framerate cost are certainly welcome...

That doesn't look nothing like my sim at high-en settings. I run mostly ultra and the sim looks amazing. If ASOBO can just simply iron out the micro pauses and pauses in some areas, I'll have a much better sim experience.

This was about the need for (landmarks) Addons compared to no Addons.

This was not about quality of the scene.

sorry, if the scenery looks the way it looks in your video, there is something seriously wrong with your set up.

Hi Mate, there is something very wrong, thats why I asked you to confirm.

I am at work but I did a flight into LFMN on Monday in the FG-1D it looked nothing remotely like your screenshots. I will post tonight. Some shots I took.

Thanks.

I have flown over the Netherlands, Italy and Portugal and that looks very good.

Here Nice, but now with LOD 130 instead of 100 and on one display ...

https://www.dropbox.com/s/j3j353zr06s1x9w/Foto 21-04-2021 12 05 40.heic?dl=0

After additional testing it seems I need at least 130 or better 150 to make it look good. With LOD of 100 I am looking far after the buildings/trees, so no objects then to see.

Bevause of 2x 4K as one view I need to be careful with the settings.

Orbx, along with other scenery devs will have a place in this sim.

They surely have, the place will just be much smaller and more crowded.

I think, some kinds of add-ons are more obsolete than others but in general, payware scenery add-ons will account for a much smaller slice of the cake. As the cake itself is much larger though, it still seems to be worthwhile to serve that market...

Here a short vid with modified settings : LOD terrain 120 / LOD objects 130

That brings down the framerate significantly but the scenery now looks better (also you can see the great Nice city scenery from Flightsim.to)

So much better but 17 FPS, running 2x 4k is for sure not helping. Can you get more head room if you set setting to HIGH as clearly 100 looks terrable your end. You have 75 FPS in your other shots whats making that fail to 17? You have no VC to render.

OMG we've come so far!😢

I've had so many memories in that little bugger.

Really happy to see it return in the new sim.

For me at least the standard of much of the terrain makes addons more compelling, not less.

You're in the slightly weird situation of departing from a weird blank mess, flying over something that often looks exactly like reality, and then arriving at a weird blank mess.

It's interesting that they've improved the landscape and building autogen, but have done nothing about the airports apart from local functionality tweaks with world updates.

I can remember talk prior to MSFS release dooming companies like ORBX because there would no longer be a market for scenery add-ons.

I think most were talking about Regional sceneries like Pacific Northwest, etc.. and whatever that Global thingy that they sell for other sim's. Thing of it is we really didn't know till we got our hands on it. And also future updates for years to the Bing scenery. And flight sim's are so personal for people. Some like very detail scenery, some very detail aircraft, and some will spend thousands on every single thing they can get their hands on. Some buy or bought Landmark's, and then Asobo updated some of those areas. With potentially millions of customers, 37,000 + airports, thousands of different PC setups, if not millions, each customer is unique to what they want, and how much they are willing to spend.

It's really after a few month's after release that everyone can get an idea of how they think this sim will proceed. Some like it, and of course some don't. Also, won't the Gateway ( XP-11 ) for MSFS, type thing help a little bit if they ever get it going. I think a beta is planned. This is gonna take years, and years, and years. I actually like the constant Updates and such, but I understand why some people don't. And YES I say the update prayer during every update also!

And also X-Box will be in the mix this year. So even more people to sell addons to. I am assuming they will be able to use the exact same addons, why wouldn't they?

I don't buy scenery for any sim really. And don't use a lot of freeware scenery either or mod's. If I do I delete it almost immediately for conflict reasons possibly. What I mean by millions of people using the sim in a million different ways.

Just like for a ton of people the default aircraft are fine. For others that's a curse word. And thanks for all the mod developers too, FBW, WT, etc... Freeware and Payware developers getting on board. Everyone is different in this hobby. Thank goodness!

Enjoy your Sim's everyone, all of them!
