CaptainSim releases Boeing 777-200ER for MSFS!

and yet, whatever shades of angst anyone may have about this plane, whether justified or not, the liveries are hammering flightsim.to with one of the first ones having over 500 downloads in less than 24 hours of release of the plane, so it has already achieved a quarter of the downloads of the most popular aerosoft crj550 livery which has been around for 2 months now...

Makes ya think 🙂

I am not a fan of this plane and all the cheap shortcuts they took but I do see your point.

P3D.. It was the middle war between the old stubborn (not an insult. But let's be real) guard who wouldn't let FSX go and being a fan of anything else got you stomped on and the new and younger crowd leaking into the fray.

X-Plane.. Was that guy everyone just liked and felt sorry for even though everyone knew it was just getting a participation award despite the innovations they brought to the plate, way too late.. (and I loved X-Plane but knew this myself)

MSFS.. Yeah. It's a new guard now. They don't care about nostalgia, and everything before. It's now time. The torch was never even passed. It was dropped somewhere on turn two and never looked back at.

Oddly enough, at this stage I am not a fan either, even though I fall into the absolute gamer/sim category.  After all, my actual flying was 50 years ago and that was something else, but frankly these days, I know I am not going to ever get a computer to replicate actual real flying, so I have fun flying lots of aircraft, very simply..   thats just my way and my fun stream, but theres a couple of things with this 777 that still don't sit right with me.. however.. if they are corrected.. yeppers it will go into the fleet as something else to putter around in. 🙂    And for me that would be getting the doors opening, the jetway connection working, the removal of the 4 engine panel, and rather more accurate climb and cruise settings.

I'm not picky in the way I play on Computers as I am aware that true reality is not being in front of a computer  🙂

Sensitive souls they are 😅. Angst about what ? A product clearly marketed for what it is, a reskinning, and that you are at the entire liberty not to buy.  Where is the problem ?

While yes, they did technically did, sorta, tell you what you're actually getting. A key word really describes the problem with it. The optics in which they presented it. They hedged their bets on impulse buys from people who didn't read the fine print.. While they were technically honest.. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing. That's the problem..  Hence it is baitware..   They casted a large net with a lot of bait on the hooks and sadly the fish that bit realize once they were on the boat they'd been had.

WASM is to make the simulator more stable.  The reason for WASM is that a bug in 3rd party add ons can cause the sim to crash, especially in a 3rd party DLL.  By using WASM, this will help to make the simulator more stable from 3rd party bugs.

But of course, people will say MSFS is not as stable now and sometimes you get CTDs.  This is true.  Many of the bugs are probably from Asobo's code that are causing stability issues.  However, over time, Asobo will iron out these bugs and MSFS will become more stable.  When they do that, by using WASM, bugs from 3rd parties are less likely to crash the simulator.

The Prosim WASM file causes an overload in Simconnect. In my case the Trimvalue.

By taking the Prosim WASM file out the Community folder I have lost my external lights and external AC movements like flaps and gear but I have a rocksolid combo now.

My first priority, which is probably not yours many others, is multi monitor support and NVSURROUND fisheye correction, so I can use WidevieW and have my second view pc up and running 😎

And good quality airports/landmarks as there are a lot of ‘fake’ developers releasing not so good products ....

I went over to flightsim.to and there were already so many different liveries available to download for the CS 777.  In addition to what you said about there being 500 downloads for one of the liveries, I think this CS 777 already sold really well.

I guess this means MSFS add ons are selling really well, which means MSFS is in a very healthy spot.  This is before the X-Box release, which will grow the MSFS markets further.

But whether CS deserves this sales success from what is arguably a “cash grab” ... ... well, I’ll let the others comment on this.

Personally I suspect something like this will have absolutely no effect on future sales of a $100 777.

They are entirely different products that sell to entirely different markets.

Exactly, I for one will certainly buy the " High fidelity" " Study Level" aircraft when they come out.... I just don't get the shear panic from some when a clearly less developed version, which will likely be forgotten once the better spec stuff starts coming out. is causing such horror.

Well this is going to get me really slammed by the fanboi dept, but if we are talking optics regarding sales,  can anyone point out to me anywhere on the sales page of Aerosoft where it says that you cannot use the inbuilt flight planner from MS?

Yes, I know you can program the FMC, yes I know you can import from Simbrief etc.. but it does NOT support a delivered function of MSFS and that has been complained about so much on the official forums.. even more than this 777  , so as you say, optics are important 🙂

It's why I never do impulse buys on any new product and wait for reviews. When the Carenado Seneca first came out I refused to buy. Figuring "All show and no go".. Typical Carenado.. Yet shockingly it turned out to be a decent aircraft on a Carenado level and  bought it.

It is the opposite effect of what this turned out to be.. Hence.. I just bide my time, sit back and see what the general consensus is before plopping down money. No matter who the developer is. Advertising is just that. Proof is in the pudding.

"We must protect customers from 3rd parties who would otherwise ship add-ons which would be accessing their customers personal files and do who knows what with it"

Was this really a problem before ??   I mean outside of the FSLabs incident (and their rep took a good hit for it),  there did not really seem to be a problem with addons accessing customers personal files in FSX or P3D.

What actually is driving this point of view from MS/Asobo ? Is it compatibility with XBox ?

MSFS has 2M+ Pilots, a store that guarantees more $$$ to fund further development, an unprecedented marketing / engagement strategy, a commitment to continually develop the sim (like "VR" after the release), and the lists goes on and on...and their future is bright and clear...set in stone on a roadmap. This....this is reigning supreme with respect to flight simulation

MSFS has lost nothing....

Asobo said from that start that they were initially relying on 3P Devs to bring the higher fidelity aircraft / systems....after some feedback, they decided to partner with WT to bring more...to the core.

You can't fault Asobo for what 3P Devs bring to the table, you will have to "wait" for the better planes to come (or take the plunge to make your own), surely that will take time.

You mean 1.999999 million gamers who couldn’t a real add-on from A to B? Watching YouTube, twitch and all the other trash steams is more then evident of that.
The gamers love their toy planes!

Microsoft have lost...the respect of serious flight simulator users. It’s now officially beyond a joke with this release. There is so many freeware options on the other platforms that put this to shame.

I’m sure it looks good (external view only) to everyone’s school friends on discord. Maybe that’s the point of all these poor releases now?

Doesn't change the fact that the founder of the company that makes highly realistic aircraft that people willingly pay over $100 for because of that fidelity said "It's ready now."

Shouldn't we worry more about the developers that are having issue, rather than those that are saying everything's fine? I'll be the first to tell you that it's great news PMDG (I assume that's who you're referring to) has all they need and i am most definitely looking forwards to the NG3. But exactly because they are confident that they will deliver (last we heard from them, at least), that's why i'm not worried about them.

I am worried about developers like RXP because that's what needs attention. That's what needs fixing. That's what needs a solution. Seems to me like he's been left hanging out to dry for quite a while. I know Matt said he wants to reach out to him. Has this happened? Have any solutions been proposed? Are any on the table? Is Asobo willing to deliver a technical solution that would satisfy both sides, such that RXP can deliver Garmin simulations to FS2020?

PMDG is set. That's great. But RXP is up in the air as far as we in the community can tell. So that's why people keep bringing him up. And while i do agree that saying "without RXP gauges it's not a real sim" might be a bit overly dramatic, you also have to agree that having those gauges is very important to a lot of people who fly GA a lot and have grown accustomed to a certain level of integration and functionality which is simply not present in the sim today.
