DC Designs Stearman out!...

I’ve spent lots of time in that particular cockpit and the structure and even the wings and empennage looked much thicker than I remember in the preview videos.

DC have said (on SOH) that they will be fixing some of the visual issues around the cockpit, but it's a bought-in 3D model so not sure now much will get fixed.

Still for £11 I bought it in a heartbeat and it's really nice, just a bit 'Tonka Toy' 🙂
FM-wise it's got the veer left at 40 MPH and the zero prop drag that are MSFS issues hopefully to be fixed one day, and it keeps elevator authority down to really low speeds, hopefully DC will fix that.

Or perhaps the one from Golden Age Simulations for P3D? 🙂

Thanks for the review. I like your style.

I like the Golden Age one in P3D - they went the extra mile by adding the working hand-crank inertia starter which was a nice detail touch, but out of all of them, the only one which did a reasonably convincing ground loop was the freebie one in MS Flight.

It's as well to bear in mind however, that both of those were using a well tried and tested flight modeling system which, whilst it is a look-up table type, is capable of getting pretty convincing results when the person creating the flight model really knows what they were doing and has a lot of experience with it. That was the case with both of those: Golden Age have made a ton of biplane add-ons and so they really know the ESP flight model well, and the default Flight Stearman was a money-no-object showcase default plane for a new sim with the backing of MS itself, so it was obviously going to have some good points.

Conversely, this is DC Design's first stab at a biplane, and this for a sim which new to the developer, so I think we need to wait and see what a patch will bring when the feedback is in from buyers, which the developer can respond to. All developers are going to get better with each stab they have at making stuff for MSFS, just as was the case for XPlane, FS2004, FSX, P3D et, and I for one am willing to cut them some slack in this regard when they acknowledge this with a low price tag so we can join them on that journey and support their efforts. This is why I also throw donations at any freeware stuff.

Overall this one's a fun add-on and a reasonable stab at the real thing for the price tag, and with a few tweaks I daresay it'll end up really good.

Not planning to at the moment, it gets expensive buying all that stuff to review.

I don't need to go for broke, I'm already there lol. You never know though, one day some developers might take pity on me and start sending me review copies of things. That's why I keep asking people to subscribe to my channel. 🤣

Hi Chock,

Give me a shout on my Facebook page, via PM, and I'll make sure you get preview copies of my aircraft before they release  🙂

Stearman updates go live tomorrow at JF, just aesthetic changes and corrections to my modeling errors;

Engine crank-case corrected

Prop spin direction corrected

Wing spars and supports now ovoid / aerofoil shaped

Elevator shape corrected

Misaligned braces corrected

Rain effect on windscreen corrected

( Aerodynamics just need a reduction in roll rate and some extra drag at low throttle settings - will sort that at a later date as I don't want to upset the aircraft's aerobatic qualities which seem to be about right )

Cheers all,

Dean

Great!  Sincere thanks for taking the time to drop in and tell us about your planned improvements.

It's obvious that any developer that responds and communicates like this it this has an immediate advantage with potential customers.
It will be a definite buy for me now, especially after taking the time to publish a decent manual as Chock explained. It all adds to the atmosphere of making you want to jump in and fly it!

I see you have been assisting SC Designs with their upcoming F-16, as well as developing you own F-14.  They both look like interesting projects as well, certainly for me.

If you don't mind answering, what is the relationship between you and SC designs?

Glad to see it will make it to the Market Place. Thanks!

As soon as it show's up there, is is a buy for me! The PT-17 Stearman and Kodiak are/where on my top list. Besides a float plane which the Bush League Legends people too care of and I think the BIrddog ( not sure of the name or developer ), but I have no interest in that one at the moment!

Any chance there will be any liveries from you that look similar to the MS Flight ones. Especially the Black Striped one? If not, pretty sure flightsim.to will take care of it!

Thanks a ton for the PT-17 Stearman! Any other GA aircraft in the works?

A Kodiak sits right at the top of my list as well!

Yup, that was a notable exception to the norm, and a welcome one for such a nice add-on aeroplane.

SC Designs is my brother's company - he lost his career after an industrial accident, and has been learning sim design from me.

Both the F-14 and F-16 will be considerably more advanced than the F-15s were - not too complex, but I'm really getting the hang of MSFS and the SDK now.

You're welcome, hope that you enjoy it!

I've been asked many times now for a Harvard / Texan, so that may be in the works for next year. Concorde is my only other civilian airplane in development, all others are military fast jets.
