June 21, 20214 yr Currently picking them up at 38nm away. Isn't that a bit too short? There is no terrain between me and the stations (just flatland and water). Edited June 21, 20214 yr by Andreas Stangenes Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78
June 21, 20214 yr Depends on terrain but I think it was around 50nm in FSX. bs AMD RYZEN 9 5900X 12 CORE CPU - ZOTAC RTX 3060Ti GPU - NZXT H510i ELITE CASE - EVO M.2 970 500GB DRIVE - 32GB XTREEM 4000 MEM - XPG GOLD 80+ 650 WATT PS - NZXT 280 HYBRID COOLER
June 21, 20214 yr Compared to real life, yeah, that's short. I wonder if they model range based on VOR type? Terminal vs High Level, for example. Here's what AOPA says about VORs. Richard Chafey i7-8700K @4.8GHz - 32Gb @3200 - ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero - EVGA RTX3090 - 3840x2160 Res - KBSim Gunfighter - Thrustmaster Warthog dual throttles - Crosswind V3 pedals MSFS 2020, DCS
June 21, 20214 yr Author I was cruising at FL130. Didnt pick them up before they were at least 40nm close. Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78
June 21, 20214 yr At altitude you would see a High one as far out as up to 150nm. Karl i9-9900K@5,0 | 32GB 3200 | 2080TI | 4K 55" | MSFS | P3D V5
June 21, 20214 yr In real life aviation it varies based on the strength of the transmitter and altitude. When I actively flew for 15 years from 1970 to 1985, at altitudes mostly below 12,000 ft and most often below 8,000 ft the VOR range for most stations was approx 60 miles, and some as low as 40 miles, even with flat terrain. That was then, but in ride-a-longs over the past several years I have not seen much different. Do not believe the systems have been upgraded much over the years. Personally I did not at any time pilot an aircraft above 12,000. June 21, 20214 yr Depends on the VOR - can be anything from 25 NM to 140 NM. It's in the AIRAC. Don't try and use them as NAV Aids unless you've nailed their ranges before hand or you're an ignoramus. They're you're best friends when you're not doing GNSS, GPS, (anything by Garmin) , etc... Absolutely, we have them in the sim Andreas. And in fact - fate, not being without a sense of irony we have MORE VOR/ DME than exist in the real World - becuase the real ones's are being de-comissioned and yet AIRAC still has them as active, and so on, and so forth. . . Enjoy "Hiking" a radial to them while you can . . Edited June 21, 20214 yr by Will Fly For Cheese
