July 9, 20214 yr Hi all, First of all, I would like to thank all the inputs in this forum for my new computer. After my first purchase, about three months ago, the computer was finally switched ON yesterday, and all went perfect. Here are the specs: - Intel Core i9-10900K 3.7 GHz + Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut thermal compound - MSI MEG Z490 ACE - Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming OC 24GB GDDR6X - Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) CL16 - NZXT Kraken Z73 - SSD M.2 2280 Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB MLC V-NAND - SSD M.2 2280 Samsung 860 Evo 2TB MLC V-NAND SATA - Corsair RM1000X 1000W 80 Plus Gold Modular + Premium Individually Sleeved PSU Cables Pro Kit Type 4 Gen 4 + Premium Individually Sleeved PCIe Cables (Single Connector) Type 4 Gen 4 - Corsair 6x 120mm LL120 RGB LED PWM + Corsair RGB LED Fan HUB + Corsair Commander Pro - Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic - Dell Alienware AW3420DW 34,1" LED WQHD 120 Hz G-Sync Curved Now it's time to install MSFS and maybe P3D. What is the best place or URL to download MSFS? What are the needed extras for the first approach? DirectX 11,12? Any other program? I was out of FS world for 3 or 4 years... EDIT: Update 5 comes in the end of the month. Can we download package with all updates until now and update the sim to patch 5 when it comes out? Thanks Edited July 9, 20214 yr by harpsi
July 9, 20214 yr Lovely PC! First up, get the sim via Steam, not the MS Store. You can install it now and then update it at the end of the month. No need to wait until then to install. Install to a custom directory, for example D:\MSFS2020 or something like that. Do not let it install to the default path which is horrible and will cause problems. You do not need to install to C drive. Before installing, make sure all drivers and Windows etc is updated. Enjoy! Edit - don't install P3D. It will waste space (and your time) and you wont use it after a few flights in MSFS. July 9, 20214 yr I would argue to get the Sim from the Microsoft store, not Steam. First, never had any problems this way but another reason is that Steam harvests 35% of all purchases in the marketplace, robbing third parties from a substantial part of their revenue Flightsim rig: CPU: AMD 5900x | Mobo: MSI X570 MEG Unify | RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z Neo | GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3090 | Storage: M.2 (2 & 4 TB) | PSU: Corsair RM850x | Case: Fractal Define 7 XL Display: Acer Predator x34 3440x1440 | Speakers: Logitech Z906 Controllers: Fulcrum One Yoke | MFG Crosswind v2 pedals | Honeycomb Bravo Quadrant |Thrustmaster TCA Quadrant | Stream Deck XL & Plus | TrackIR 5 Tobii eye tracking

Thanks Hi A nice beastie 😀 There are two places to buy the sim : the MS store and Steam. I also recommend Steam as the history of this forum shows with little doubt that it is the less troublesome of the two for the user. you do not need anything except the last version of W10 and an account with MS and Xbox. Your download will be updated to the last version except for the regional free Dlc to be « bought » (they are free) and downloaded separately. End of this month you will only have to download the last patch. Fair enough but there are many posts (even entire threads) here on Avsim pointing to Steam being the lesser of two evils. In fact I don't really know of anyone having issues with Steam, other than doing the "verify installation" which tends to re-install the Sim. Steam just works. I have yet to purchase from the Marketplace, only direct with the dev's. Marketplace is cumersome and too slow to update so 3rd party devs get all (or most) of my money and the 35% 'commission' is less of an issue then. At least I cannot post anything in foruns... Don't know why... Could you please explain me the steps? Thanks. So, I get confused about the two places where to download it. 1. Is the price the same? 2. Which one is faster? Although I have fiber 100 MB and yesterday I installed Win10 and drivers in 30 minutes... 3. Which one gives me less problems for future updates and other issues? Edited July 9, 20214 yr by harpsi
July 9, 20214 yr This is the procedure https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015760620-Download-Installation-guides 1: Price is the same. 2: I don’t know about the speed. 3: No guarantee for the future but if you read this forum, you’ll see soon enough that people having glitches have bought it from the MS Store Dominique Simming since 1981 - [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam
July 9, 20214 yr the only reason i bought it form ms store is the free use eventually on xbox, else i say steam might be the better choice.

Congrats I went with the MS Store installation. No installation issues from my experience but i would recommend that you do a once over of your MS account to ensure all is ok with it before installation. The only downfall with the MS Store is that it installs the program in "app" form and hides the exe in an encrypted folder. Apart from that i have had no issues with it. I didn't use steam because that would probably require me to install steam and while in the grand scheme of things Steam itself may not take up a lot of resources i would rather not install software just to facilitate the installation of software. When i can use the built in option. But i believe Steam's installation does allow access to flightsimulator.exe Just additional things to consider. Cheers and Enjoy! July 9, 20214 yr It's funny, some are vehemently against steam and vice-versa with MS. It doesn't Matter, vote for the one you want. We fight over Steam VS. MS, but any other topic, we're just flight simmers. (more or less). I use steam cause most games I run are available on steam, But I don't care which one you decide to use, it's your 'puter and your house. My reasons for using steam, don't count in the minds of others, and I probably don't agree with their reasons for MS. Doesn't matter, we are all dreamers of flight. July 10, 20214 yr If there was a poll asking if people could do it over and buy and install MSFS, would they stick with Steam or go with Microsoft Store….. I recon all the Steam’ers would stick with Steam and quite a few MS’ers would convert to Steam. There is strong evidence on these very forums to support that hypothesis. Steam is better. Not because I say so but because there are countless posts on Avsim related to MS Store issues and pretty much zero related to Steam.
