Degraded graphics after SU5? Look here...

Recommended Posts

Are you finding after Nemo's fix you still find textures crummy?   Seems mine including coloration looks pretty good again.  My main hope is Asobo finding ways to use more VRAM as I'm about 2/3 of what I was seeing for SU4 for both VRAM and SysRAM.  Clouds I think are restored as well but I think they have degraded some as well.

No to be honest, haven't tried that fix. I think I saw some posts that said it had no effect, but i may be wrong.

I was corrected by Harry it was Nyxx David's discovery.  If you haven't done this geez what are you waiting for it's clearly much better!

This is interesting...

Here is what someone said on how it affected performance:

Specs: AMD 5900x, 6900XT @5760X1080p, all Ultra, Tested Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to Statue of liberty. Cessna 152.
5x LOD: 48FPS
3X LOD: 49FPS
2x LOD: 54FPS
1X LOD: 60FPS

Has anyone checked if the performance drops after doing this trick? it should be obvious lower between medium and ultra, I am away from my PC and can not check it right now.

Yes FPS is dropping as suspected switching from low-end to ultra . Visual there is also something to see

Maybe a stupid Q but LOD at Ultra is the same as LOD 500% ?

Speaking about LOD - its also mentioned around buildings etc. but here it has another meaning ?

Also what about bandwith in all this ? Streaming online has also a part ?

Thanks

ULTRA is sticking for me so this isn't a widespread affecting everyone type issue.

Right now I'm getting CTD's more often than ever previously.  I've done about 6 flights now and 2 have had CTD's fairly close to destination.  I had maybe 2-3 every since Aug 20, 2020, AND I have a new install of MSFS, though not into a new install of Win10.

It appears to be a simple oversight no one picked up at Command Central.  I'm sure it will be addressed quickly.   What's not clear is what to do with all available RAM and VRAM now.

This all has started to remind me the ol´ FSX CFG tweak times,....

As I was reading threads here and on the official FS forum, I was thinking the exact same thing. We are back to having to spend hours tweaking  just to get it to work properly. Deja Vu all over again. 🙄

I really don't know how much of the information is accurate, as I have not independently verified it.

Basically, Asobo definitely changed the way LODs are rendered in the internal rendering engine. We know that for pretty much absolute fact, how that precisely translates to before/after in the visuals depends on a lot of variables. A model LOD is a lower resolution model with a reduced polygon count and reduced texture resolution. For LOD's that affect the terrain and the mesh, well that isn't really as standardized, so it depends more on Asobo's own implementation.
