Much more power than the cubs I have flown.

But really not bad. The J3 only has 65 HP (older ones even less) seems anemic but is a very light flyer.

I would say they are a bit too easy in ground handling. Cubs love to ground loop.

I like the Husky a lot it feels really robust. But the way the brakes are reversed has caught me out a few times, I am sure this will be fixed.

Most of my float plane flying was in a 185. And most of my BC flying was in a 177B, tricycle but it was mine and I have almost 2000 hrs in it. It actually is great on grass and gravel and a lot easier to handle in x-wind.

I did wonder about that as I found them a bit easier to control than previous sims, but then I've seen several comments that ground-handling needs work in MSFS.

On the other hand the default DA40 turns like a Nascar car.

Well, I could separate Cub-styles into two categories. There's the old stuff. In this category EVERYTHING is under-powered! Every decision and every circumstance must take this into account. There isn't a lot under the hood to work with. In my case, most of my flying took place at high-altitude fields. High-density days made 200-300 ft/min climbs the norm. My little open-cockpit Experimental could exceed that performance by three times.Wind also becomes a more important factor. Not only do low wing loadings make for a bouncy ride in thermals or gusts, If they have a high enough velocity, the resultant pucker factor can have you wishing you had not left the hangar. I have been bounced around so violently I couldn't focus on the instruments! With very high crosswinds you might not have enough horsepower to maintain adequate control. Weather-watching becomes a constant chore for anyone flying one of these old timers. You find out where your personal limits are and how much risk you are willing to take. There will be many days when you drive to the field, listen to AWOS, and observe what the local weather is doing, and decide to stay on the ground. The new birds like the Husky? That's easier. You still have everything I've mentioned in regards to the old birds, but you have several times the horsepower under the cowl, and probably some aerodynamic improvements that contribute to performance and control - although, from a distance they look pretty much exactly like the old models. In flying, as in many other venues, power is golden, It certainly applies here. Why would you choose to fly old, underpowered aircraft instead of newer versions? Well - for me it was not only the stick-and-rudder challenges, it's about stepping back into history. These old aircraft even have their own unique smells! During the attack on Pearl harbor there were two Blue and Yellow Interstate Cadets doing training flights in the area. They actually were chased by Zeros. They both made it back to the field but one had so much damage it couldn't fly again. Would you jump at a chance to fly a piece of history like this? I was able to fly the Interstate a couple times. It's an experience I won't forget. I won't forget my BFR in the husky either. It was akin to going from a model T, to a McClaren. I will not soon forget that experience either!

Be interested to know what you think about Aeroplane Heaven's C140 which in real life was a contemporary of the J3 though "more modern" .

What I love about it is the total lack of power and how incredibly slow it is.

 

 

A typical scenic flight if you have not come across it yet (warning longish video) .

Something missing in the Cub is that you cannot tune the mixture by ear. How is the Husky in this regard ?

I don't know. I want to look it up in the manual, just like I do in other commercial addon planes, but I see no manual...... Also: did you guys check under the instrument panel? There is a cowl flap handle with black knob on the left side. Nobody of the Husky addon owner I speak have seen this- I have the habbit to lower my view in VR and inspect the entire cockpit. There are nice details near the rudder pedals. Glass bottle like thinks which apparently can be connected to a hose? Electronic device with text and sort of a parralel port type connector. Etc. And where can I read the performance specs of this addon (IRL there will be a manual somewhere if I Google, but : what is implemented in this addon?).

 

It this is a high fidelity addon then a high fidelity manual must be included!!

I can guess the function of course, some kind of TCAS. But why do I have to search the internet for it?

I have not tried that, I will.

But I use the CHT, 50º rich of peak is good on the O-360.

I have gauge in my AirManager panel for that, both in the Husky and the Cub. You can also use RPM drop to set mixture, lean until drop occurs, then kitchen up a bit. But you probably already knew that.

Why did they only provide one livery with the large tundra version, yet the stand small tired version has all the liveries, whose dumb idea was this.

The only Husky with a full set of liveries is the default standard one.

Probably an oversight rather than deliberate.

How many liveries does one need, really. The first thing I do with any addon is remove all but one, maybe two liveries at the most. I treat it as I would a real aircraft in which case it would never be, oh I'll take the lurid pink one out today. I stick with the one I would have chosen at the dealers. 

Having said that I am surprised by how few liveries have been made for this yet.  

The lack of glass reflection on the gauges is the biggest immersion killer with this one for me. I know it's the same for every default aircraft but its made worse for me with the very flat and cartoonish multi function display in the bottom right. That is something a repaint can't fix unfortunately. 

That 140 is quickly becoming one of my faves.  I love the art-deco feeling cockpit.  It's a nice bird all around.
