I won't get it.  Too many planes I haven't tried yet.

My TLDR :

  • Some minor bugs with brakes reversed and flashing landing lights, these should be fixed next patch
  • Flies really well, ground handling and landing is good. may be underpowered for 200 HP?  Not sure never flown one.
  • much prefer it to the cubs, in particular much more user friendly touch screen avionics than the Cubs, if you must have Glass this is the way to go
  • price is pretty reasonable for what you are getting

Still spend more time in the C140 because I just love the "50's diner with a tail wheel" feel of the thing -  but this Husky is coming a close second with maybe 5 or 10 hours in it already, followed by the Warrior II which I still fly occasionally for longer hops (and of course the Arrow II for the odd occasion I need even more speed and altitude).

Curious to know what you guys find so fascinating about GA bush planes and flying? Is it because bush flying has more freedom, no liimts, land pretty much anywhere, where as with traditonal GA flying, you have more rules, and fly by the books, etc?

... but ... can you do this in an Airbus ...

Learning to fly a Cub or Husky or any other light tandem tail dragger in real life or in the sim is how you really learn the basics of flying. Much more so than a 150 or 172.

They really tech you how to use rudder and brakes. And as you say they can go almost anywhere with 500' of open field 1200 if you have trees at either end. Both in the Sim and in real life.

It feels more like flying when you fly at 500' or below following the contours of the land. Or flying up rivers one of my old hobbies in real planes. Just watch out for power lines and seagulls or other birds. I have had hawks pass me in a Cub after dive bombing me and coming within 6' of the prop. I have also cut a seagull in half landing in Margaree Nova Scotia. Made a mess of the front of the left wing, but missed the windshield and did not damage the plane.

It is the perfect plane to learn about stalls and spins. Do chandelles and lacy eights. Crank up the wind and hone your max crosswind landing skills.

It will make you a better pilot in larger planes as well, it is all about stick and rudder even in the tube liners. #1 fly the plane and know its limits.

I love flying in FS2020 exploring my childhood summer hoes in the archipelago outside Stockholm. I really can recognize my old stamping ground and beaches from 100' up at 80mph with flaps down. And with floats land and taxi up on shores where I used to swim and sail boats from.

I also love flying planes like the DC6. But frankly that is boring compared to treetop flying. And this is the first sim that really makes low VFR real. It is now amazing on 3 screens at 45 fps and ultra settings with a 4th screen with the instruments. After U5 I am having more fun than I ever have in a sim before. And the Husky is just cream on the cake...

Definitely.   I used to fly Ryan's livery during group flights.  I'm subbed to it now, and waiting for it to be updated for SU5.  https://flightsim.to/file/1220/cessna-208b-grand-caravan-ethnos360-missionary-bush-pilot

I used to think he was flying a Caravan,  until I realized it was a Kodiak.

I love greasing a "soft field" landing on some crazy bush strip.  Carrying that front tire jussst off the ground until the last moment.

This is my favorite song to play while flying in the bush,

This is a 737-300. But yes you can 😂😂😂

One thing I like about Husky is that not floaty with full flaps on landing. Years of teaching slow flight does came with benefit - hang it on the prop , chop power, and Husky is on the ground !

lol .. well you can land a caravan at Busilmin without bouncing,  I just touched down in that old clip above just a wee bit too early (basically landed just a smidgeon before rather than after the threshhold if it was a paved runway) and hit the hump at the end of the actual threshold and got thrown back in the air for a few seconds 😄  The other give away that I landed too early was I needed a fair chunk of power at the top to get off the runway and onto the flat parking area.

Hmm, no attempt to flare, check yer noseleg after that one

well the rate of descent was zero at the time of the first touch so she definitely was flared, but given the uphill slope a slight rate of climb may have been more appropriate-  so guilty as charged 😄.

That's part of it, for sure.  Being able to go off into the wilderness, find a fun looking spot, and land anywhere with 1000' or so of clear space feels to me like the freedom of flight turned up to 11.   It's also easy to find areas where the scenery is absolutely gorgeous, and MSFS makes that even better.

For me though the thing I most enjoy is the technical, stick and rudder challenge of it.  I've spent hours in various taildraggers, just circling the same clearing over and over again and trying to bring it down for the shortest possible three-point landing.   Then dialing in some crosswind and doing it again.  It's the same reason I enjoy racing autocross -- (relatively) slow speeds, but with an amount constant attention, precision, and "feel" needed that makes it seem like the purest kind of driving.  Or flying.

One of the most thrilling moments I've had in MSFS was on a trade run in NeoFly where I had a quarter million dollars worth of fragile cellphones to flip in my hold and had to land them on a strip that was basically a scratch on the side of a mountain in Mexico.   (Having that much virtual currency sunk into the flight made the stakes feel even higher 😄 )

I can't ever recall hanging outside a real plane when flying.  Kinka death wish.  Where is the cockpit, gees flick a few switches and set a few dials or something akin to real in your video trailer MS/AS.

How's Neofly? I currently use Onair but it's so toobliner focused.

I enjoy NeoFly,  and the author is constantly improving it.  My NF career is in Papua,  New Guinea., operating of out WABT.   I chose that location because it's situated on one of the few large lakes in the nation.

I keep flying the craziest missions,  like medical emergencies that give you a gps coordinate and require you to land within a specific distance.   There's nothing but mountains and trees,   and the challenge is trying to find a large enough clearing.  Too much fun.

Side note,

Not sure if anyone watches Juan Brown's YouTube channel,  "Blancolirio",  or not.   He's an airline pilot and his channel reports on aviation crashes and incidents.   Anyway,  around January he purchased a used Husky.  Beautiful aircraft,  painted in the same kind of yellow livery we have in game.   The prior owner happened to be a close friend of Gen. Chuck Yeager,    and Yeager has spent much time in that particular Husky (both as a passenger,  and flying it alone).   Pretty cool.

SIde note:  The first Husky livery has appeared on FS.TO,  2 different schemes,  that cover all variants (floats/skis/etc).

LOL! I knew I had good taste. If I could have afforded one, the Husky would have been my GA bird of choice.

Sounds like you’ve cut your teeth on a few bush planes!

What do you think of the default Cubs in MSFS?
