Life begins at LOD 6?

Complete agreement, been hoping to do that since the 3080 ti released (the 3080's 10GB just doesn't cut it for me).  Knew when I built my system about a year and a half ago that I wanted to retire my gtx 1070 soon and almost bought a gtx 2080 S at that time, but its 8GB was a deal breaker plus the 30 series was just about to be released.  I now kick myself for not getting that 2080 S for about $660...if only I had known what the gcard market soon would become

I've been surprised, and mildly pleased, that my gtx 1070 handles my base settings well enough to drive a 2560x1440 panel at 30 fps, but yeah it's really holding back my MSFS performance but I'm not willing to spend $2000 or more to upgrade it.

Seeing how LOD 6/6 really stresses my i7 10700 at 30 fps, I can't see how a 3080/3090 could get around that computation limitation, but dang, how I'd love to give it a try.  Besides, 6/6 was simply a test I ran to humor myself.

pick an airport and runway and 6/6 and i will do the same and show you what I see with a screen shot, so you can see my CPU and all my GPU stuff. It might give you a good idea what just a GPU upgrade does. Please set Ultra.

I also only get stutters when looking around on the ground. In the air it's super smooth, for the most part.

I'm at LOD 3.0 at the moment, which looks way better than 2.0. However, setting it to 4.0 my flight won't load up so I'm sticking with 3.0.

Both my front view server and left view client show good FPS : server (2x 4K) around 52 FPS and client (1x 4K) around 83 FPS .

Both 170/180 LOD.

If I use higher LOD I see some small stutters on my client.

Load is below 30% both the CPU’s and GPU’s.

So I was wondering what causes these small stutters when making left turns. I also see buildings being pumped up ( melted —> correct form) in the distance.

Thanks for the offer, it'd be interesting but regardless, I will be upgrading my GTX 1070 anyways.  The only reason I am looking towards a rtx 3080 ti is I am looking at near future with VR in it.  Otherwise it would be overkill for my 2k panel.

How will it fix it though?  Surely we are demanding more than what can be provided..  I'm on 4/2 with exactly the same feeling..

The only reason I want increased LODs is because I don't want blurry distant mountain textures.  I think the object and tree LODs are fine by default.

I am hopeing we get a FOV slider, so if lets say the FOV ATM is 60, we can hope to up that to 180. It will come at a cost, but untill then?

More endless tweaking..

But yeah I have had some beautiful smooth flights, apart from panning on the ground..

It wont be endless tweaking i hope, it will let us deside what FOV we want to use just like the LOD slider.

You can't help but notice tangential views from the cockpit are rather blurred no matter what the LOD, as predicted.  I'm hoping they improve sharpness in that tangential view, at near the plane as it were.   LOD forward, or when looking directly sideways, is quite good now, even at 2.0x

Hopefully we can have a 180 degree view LOD, for panning, as no pilot can really look behind the plane, with the frame rate savings from it being 360 degrees as it was in the past.

Wasn’t this sim supposed to be the “End” of all the fax/P3D endless tweaking!

Sometimes I think we are are own worst enemy!

LMAO!

In the old days LOD 9 was the sweet-spot.

It's a little known fact the 'flight' in flight simmers is a ruse.  The real agenda has always been....endless tweaking!  I saw it here on day one, 'Where are all the mods?"  "Need more mods!"  "This thing is worthless without mods!"
