Vote for Asobo to implement a WX radar/terrain API

Featured Replies

Please hit the vote button on this thread started by the FBW devs to encourage Asobo to implement a WX radar/terrain API: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/implement-weather-and-terrain-api-s-for-aircraft-developers-to-implement-accurate-radar-predictive-windshear-egpws-and-metar-wind-uplink/442016

This is necessary if we ever want to be able to read the weather in MSFS, which is kinda important in aviation...

Voted.  Aerosoft said they would implement weather radar in the CRJ when the SDK supports it.  The CRJ was released back on March 16th.  That was 5 months ago.  I defend Microsoft/Asobo on lots of issue, but on this one, they got to get on the ball and get it done.

no point as it will only break again in SU6

I’d hope that they’d have separate teams that could work on both

They actually have an SDK team.  The SDK team has held a few Twitch Q&As already. I don't think the SDK team really fixes bugs in the sim, their expertise is working on the SDK for 3rd party devs.

Terrain mapping is already in the sim and available.  WX radar is also implemented to a limited degree in some default aircraft if I recall correctly.  It may not be ideally or highly accurate but I do remember seeing it on one of aircraft displays.

Also, I have said before, MS has an agreement with Meteo for data, I am sure that will never be 'opened up' due to the fact this it is a real world pay service.  Just my thoughts.

I think it's only done via a image if I heard right.  You guys can correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way, the sim itself needs any data point to be able to be interfaced.  If it's not a data point, it needs to be made into one.  It's a basic entry level no brainer.

I have both of these when I fly with MSFS via the FltPlan Go app, which connects MSFS to my iPad and thus to FltPlan Go through my home network.  Unfortunately the weather in the FltPlan Go app is live and real time.  It works great with AS16 and previous sims.  But the timing of MSFS live weather and the real time weather depicted in the FltPlan Go app is not at this point a match.  I hope that will improve soon.

They're not asking them to open the weather system, just to allow them to receive the weather data so they can make a better weather radar.

Also terrain.
