Periodic stutters 5.2 HF1

Featured Replies

I have been experiencing some periodic stutters with p3d 5.2 hf1

- full screen optimization disabled

- hight priority in task manager

-hyperthreading disabled

ASP3D + aiflow + aiground + atcapi + fsuipc (Linda)

autosave option disabled in fsuipc

simlink deleted (navigraph)

I fly mainly fslabs and pmdg. It could be after 20 minutes or sometimes after 2 hours.  I start to see periodic stutters, 1 second stutter every 3 seconds or so. (Very noticeable when panning around with FPS from 60 to 20 back to 60)
I honestly don’t understand what is causing this. Sometimes it happens after changing HDR settings or autogen density. Sometimes when opening active sky window and closing it, it could also simply be by putting p3d in the taskbar. It seems pretty random and it is hard to determine why these stutters happen.

I use a 120hz Monitor. gsynch is disabled, vsynch disabled, 60fps. (Turning on gsynch or vsynch doesn’t seem to change anything, I still get these periodic stutters from time to time)

I did not have this issue in previous p3d versions.
i reinstalled client ( deleted p3d.cfg and the shaders folder)

I overclocked my CPU  (3.9 to 5.1 10700KF) could this have an impact in terms of stutters?

Any thoughts ?
thanks!

Hi there, do you happen to use M. A. REALTURB products?

SN737

Same problem here, have periodically shutters in my fslabs, in v4.5 everything is fine.

@cmdn

seems it's on the ground & in the air ...... have you reviewed your use of shadows or none.

many of the recent addon airports' have building shadows that are activated as simobject (normally just one's aircraft / AI / GSX) shadows which adds to the load for that "moving" scenery & for mine leads to annoying stutters (maxing out one's GPU) as you taxi & in ther air with cloud shadows.

for now, cheers

@SergioN I do not use realturb products!

@vadriver it happens to me on ground sometimes, could be after 20 minutes at 5000 ft on after 30 min at 35000.

But again I can’t find out what is causing this. Yesterday did a flight from EDDF to LTFM.  No problem at all with the fslabs.

these stutters seem random once they happen then the only way to get rid of them is to restart the sim.

They very periodic like heartbeats I thought it could due to GPU/monitor synch.

Really no idea!

This one is interesting as QW787 has the same behaviour on my system as well . In their forum there is also others with same stutter every few seconds or so.

Seems that the "Terrain radar on "-  is involved but no response from QW.

Havent seen this in the FSLabs though

If it only happens when using certain aircraft, then it's probably related to the aircraft, especially some payware ones that are highly complex and use their own DLL software to interact with the simulator.

In 4.5 I used to get strange "micro-stutters" when using some Carenado aircraft.

To isolate the problem, you should disable or reduce simulator graphics features one at a time and see if the stutters are still present.  For example, try turning off shadows and see if that has any effect.  Then turn down the texture resolution, autogen, reflections, etc.  You can also try setting the frame rate limiter to 30 or 35fps instead of 60.

@vadriver I am going to do some shadows testing today and let you know.

@dave2013 will try this out. Thanks.

but this is quite new to me I have never had this problem on 5.1

It is all very interesting to me as I struggle to understand how & why ...... & to mention it is with a mix of hub airports, pmdg's 77F/W, Sode, GSX & AP3D/ASCA & mostly on the ground near the gate.

It does vary between developers but there is always mini-stutters but more so with some.

One interesting "fact" for me is that ISS's WSSS is the least culprit (installed by the addon.xml & building shadows activated directly) & most other scenery addons (installed in the scenery.cfg & building shadows activated by simobjects) the noticeable most problematic.

In all, no shadows is essentially no stutters.

Still testing here.

for now, cheers

After extended testing I believe that it has something to do with p3d sliders (especially the volumetric cloud slider). I think that I experience this periodic stutters after changing the volumetric cloud setting from high to ultra and back to high. after 5 to 10 minutes I start seeing these periodic stutters. It sort of mess up the fslabs autopilot as well (can't maintain the mach number, or perhaps it is a coincidence). Ans it also happened on the pmdg 748. ( only stutters not auto pilot issues)

I will do some more testing to make sure

Could someone try to plau with that columetric cloud slider to see if it has an impact on your setup?

thanks

UPDATE

I have tried everything when the stutters happened. It was not due to the clouds setting. Stutters happen too randomly . When they do start there is nothing I can do ( I tried to turn off one by one every applications or change every p3d parameters). If I want to get rid of them I have to restart p3d. I don’t believe this is linked to p3D itself but my CPU or GPU.

I guess something is wrong with my overclocking or some Bios parameters.

It's just P3D. You can mitigate stutters to an extant but they will always be there.

Stutters usually occur when you're asking the hardware to do something it can't. Asking the sim to maintain 60fps is asking a lot. You've not mentioned your graphics card and resolution of the monitor. That's crucial when trying to resolve a problem like this.

I run P3D v5.2HF1 at 30Hz - the refresh rate of my monitor and no stutters except at very busy airports with lots of Ai. A gaming monitor is of no help with P3D. One that supports 30Hz is far more suitable.
