Takeoff from KTEB head NE/East

NY Clearly seen.

Google Earth, I found were I was and droped a pin.

28 Miles

It was around 35 that NY started to fade away. Is that tied to LOD 3.5? who knows?

Just a guess, but I think you found a clever way of measuring the distance to horizon. Assuming that you were around 1000-2000 feet, the horizon is around 40-50 miles away. I'm not sure what how that might correspond to a sim parameter like LOD, but it's reassuring that the sim realizes that the world is round.

In some places it goes far, in others not so much.  Where I am, my house is way out in the 'burbs and I have a flight saved what let's me takeoff from my driveway.  Some cities it doesn't stretch much past the downtown area.

I have done VRAM testing and can confirm memory now goes up when you increase LOD settings.

I did 3 hard tests tonight the hardest I know.

VRAM peak figures. Normally falls lower to around 6-7…but peak matters.

Orbx EGLC with Orbx London VRAM 9.6

NY as you have seen 9.4

The hardest  in the scale, KSAN (paywear) to Orbx KSBA. Fly right over the middle of LA, No Stutter at all, silky smooth. VRAM 9.7

LOD 3.5 & 5.0

Live Weather so it was hazy.

Going to KSBA now..

For test I took off to the north from YBCG. I did 3 tests and witnessed the VRAM after about 2 minutes after takeoff:

Terrain LOD (2), Objects LOD (2) - VRAM ~7GB
Terrain LOD (4), Objects LOD (5.5) - VRAM ~7.7GB
Terrain LOD (6.5), Objects LOD (5.5) - VRAM ~8.5GB

How are you guys getting these LOD values.  What does LOD 2 correspond to in the sim settings?

In the graphics setting the top LOD is “1” and the one below the new setting is LOD 2.

You need to edit the config to go over 2.0 (200)

The new distance setting for photogrammetry city buildings is fantastic. We can now see tall skyscrapers far off in the distance in a realistic manner. I am beyond pleased with this "fix". Thank you Asobo for this addition to the realism and immersion factor of MSFS!

Ahh.  I don't think my CPU could handle much about 100.  My video card probably could - but is it safe to assume LOD puts a load on the CPU and not GPU?

Just give it a try on 200 Ryan, your card is still very good.

This update gave far great distance to photogrammetry.

After some testing, even at 200 and off screen caching to 200, I still get some stutters when panning around. When i go to LOD 4, even worse....I really though my system could handle this better...
