Can we enjoy the sim as of today’s state??

Yes,

but every time I play it I feel the same thrill I got when once I played a game in a Playstation game console. Was a car racing game with superb graphics, and by that time we were still on FSX / MS FLIGHT / P3D... It felt unique / gorgeous / addictive / WOW !!!... That's pretty much what I feel when I play MFS - the graphics and scenery and weather display are trully addictive as well as the free included airport services... That's also about all, if I'm not after a decent flight and overall physics / systems modelling because I still do not like the feel I get from the aircraft in MFS, with just a couple exceptions, the PMDG dc-6 being one.

Does it have the potential to get better ? I hope / believe so.

Try the Carenado Seminole and the JF Arrow too.

Let me start by saying the mandatory “yes there’s issues that need fixing “

moving on …. As someone that can take the time and spend some $$$ rent a plane and compare to the ones of the same in FS2020 and write 6 bibles on the things that are wrong I for some years now had learned to enjoy every version of previous sims there’s been available to us with their limitations and looking at where we are today I ask the question on the subject of this post and wanted to know if I was part of a very tiny group that skipped the wrong and enjoy the sim in its current state???? So can we enjoy what we have or things are so not right that one may be wrong by saying “im a happy pilot????

Yes.

Much depends on your state of mind.  As long as you understand what has been sold to you, and not what you may or may not have expected, then it has been possible for most of us to enjoy the sim since the day of it's release.

If you understand that this is a new sim with a development curve and not a replacement sim that has everything other sims have today after their 10 - 20 years of development, then nothing will be an issue for you.  Today is just a step on the path towards an even brighter future.

I have flown nearly every day for a year now.   I have used the default aircraft and some of the add-ons.  It has always, since day 1 been possible to fly in a plane, either low and slow, or a tubeliner and go from one airport to another.   Whilst the delivered aircraft are not to the level of certain planes in other sims, they are way better than the default aircraft ever provided in any other sim.  Then there is the scenery, which is still many times better than default in other sims.

Any flight sim is a journey from inception to completion, and we are right at the start of that journey.

Most peoples angst are due to their own mis-interpretation of what is available, and/or their own expectations of what should be available, and an unwillingness to wait as the development progresses wanting it all NOW 🙂

For the rest of us, we are happy flying in what is already the best base sim out there that has only improved release after release since launch.

I bought the PA-44 the day it was released. Have it updated to the latest version.

It's a nice model !

At the moment MFS doesn't allow for proper leaning logic ( you lean, specially above 3k - 4k feet ) and FF rises before starting to lower as it should right from beginning.

The props don't feather  and there's no prop drag at all when for instance on the final I advance the RPM levers. ( wrong - they now DO feather, and there's some prop drag, although not as much as I believe there should be...)

Just as all other aircraft ( less those using FBW "filters" ) it wobbles too much for my liking under elevator and even more rudder inputs, or due to wind variation and turbulences...

Taming control inputs isn't my preferred approach in a flight simulator, specially when you don't have customized settings for each aircraft and thus affect all other when you try to fine tune control inputs for a given model 😕

Using the "elasticity" tables that can now be used to reduce control efficiency based on local IAS can help, but are a workaround for something ASOBO FDM guru really has to embrace and solve for future updates.

You can make a different profile in MSFS for each aircraft. I have three of them now, one for the DC6 and two others for the single and twins.

Oops ! Thanks for pointing it... but yes, I should know because I actually have 3 profiles for the T.16000... It's my age 😕

It's more the way they're organized in MFS, differently from the more intuitive approach used in DCS World and in X-Plane 11.

For instance, I have one T.1600+ X52Pro HOTAS profile for no throttle on axis, another for throttle on axis and one for multiple throttles being controlled via buttons...

Yes, back on track now after the recent WU. CTD's have gone again... and wow the performance compared to a few months ago....We just need the complex airliners to start appearing and this sim will improve even further.

Definitely YES. It has been like this for me for a long time now given the fact that the CJ4 and TBM were complete for me in order to fly all my VATSIM flights. Now that FBW A320 experimental has the custom FMC i added this to my list.

I have been flying on any VATSIM  event they do , which usually are demanding, with no problems whatsoever. Only some manual holdings here and there ,but it is an absolute blast for me.

First to the OP, yes I do enjoy MFS which is well adapted to my style of simming and works well enough on my old hardware.

To answer Graham. The sim is not what was sold to me as presented in the early EP videos and Neuman’s crock about a sim for serious simmers. But I have lived long enough to have expected at best half of it. I reckon that I even got a little more than half.

MFS has never been presented as a WIP for its basic features but something which would be enhanced for years after release. I didn’t sign up for a journey but for a product.

I have no anxiety (angst) but certainly some frustration. But even then I like it.

A side note about brighter future, all the 20th century horrors came in the name of a brighter future, I tend to be wary of the expression 😁

a most definite YES from me, I just love it though primarily zipping across Europe with the FBW since I cannot cover hand-flying / low and slow while working from home. still a blast. yes, there are issues but what I get so far is beyond what I dared to imagine when I first heard in 2019 that MSFS is on it's way, literally throwing me back into flight simming after a decade being grounded.

Absolutely yes for me.

Like some others, I share some frustration about the regressions we get with some updates, but I tend to separate this from the general experience, which is excellent.
