What would it take for LR and/or LM to win your money back?

The bad part of that Roswell airport screenshot is that there appear to be AI (or static) aircraft parked ON TOP of the stored airliners in the base image. That really needs to be sorted out.

What the airport looks like in P3D is irrelevant. The fact remains that the photographic base image and the AFD file (or whatever it is called in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator) need to be compatible with each other.

P3D relies heavily on 3rd party DLC support to improve their virtual world.

LM Severed their relationships with many developers, there hasn’t been any new 3rd party product announcements or developments for Prepar3D for over a year, by now there are no more active developers remain to support LM needs.

That's just nonsense...

I agree. But the post was made for ease of comparison between MSFS and P3D and from what I thought was a request from a user; and, not for the sake of technical relevance.

Could be just the tail-end of projects planned or started before MSFS or upgrades to existing products. One can only guess.

You made the claim.  Now prove it.

For bofhlusr,

Sorry to get back to you so late but our internet service had been down for a day and a half.

The pictures look great.  What I especially wanted to see was the terminal building at KROW.  It's there.  The stored airliners are from quite a while ago.  Roswell got the FAA to designate Runway 30 as closed and many cycled out airliners are parked there and have been for several years.  But compared to the overall picture that's minor.  I'm not going to give up P3Dv5 and all of my favorite aircraft but I will probably get MSFS and fly it too if it's not too complicated to set up.  I'm not very good at that.

But thanks a lot bofhlsur, you showed me exactly what I was looking for and I must say I'm quite impressed.

Now, since my internet service was down for a day and a half I assume that I would not be getting the real scenery but artificial scenery instead.  But I would still be able to fly.  Is that correct?

I see you're from San Francisco.  That's my home town.  I was born there.  I grew up on Larkin Street between Jackson and Pacific.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

I completely understand why you wouldn't want to give up P3Dv5. I haven't given up on P3D4x and FSX Steam either.  To borrow a phrase: they are like old soldiers to me. "Old soldiers never die. They just fade away." 🙂

P3D4 has aircraft that is not available in MSFS, although I suspect these will eventually show up in MSFS.  I really like Flysimware's Falcon 50 and their Learjet 35A, Milviz's 310 Redux, and Carenado's Phenom 100 and 300 in P3D.  I am also hoping versions for other add-ons also get released in MSFS eventually: Where Are My Aircraft from P3D and WOAI from FSX.

I haven't tried running MSFS offline. But the option to run it offline is available.

The default San Francisco scenery is very good. I'm sure you'll enjoy cruising around your old neighborhood looking for your house.

As an added comment, after attending the P3D presentation at the FSExpo, as sad as it is for me to say, I heard nothing from the presenters that would want to make me want to come back to the platform.  For me, they filled a gap that lasted nearly 10 years and for that I enjoyed them but it is time to move on.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Sometimes it's time to stop.  For me moving on is no longer an option.  I seriously considered it last week when I saw the pictures of Roswell Bofhlur posted.  Yes, I could find my house.  But making a tradeoff chart I decided to stick with P3Dv5.2.

1.  I already have it.

2. I already have all the curently available Orbx scenery for it which is satisfactory for me even though I can't find my house.

3. There are over 100 payware and freeware FSX/P3D aircraft available for P3Dv5.2 and I have half of them.

4. I have my custom paneled Lionheart Quest Kodiak that I fly over 90% of the time in P3Dv5.2.

5. With what I already have in P3Dv5.2 I won't have to spend another penny on the hobby in my remaining lifetime even if LM were to pull the plug on and discontinue P3D tomorrow morning.  Even if it crashed I already have the P3Dv5 installation folder and password on a thumb drive.

I'm not ready to give all that up because I can see my house.
