Just goes to show that one app can cause all kinds of problems.

Just goes to show that hardware can cause all kinds of problems, either.

Hi guys,

I just saw that just before the CTD, Windows tried 3 times to start Defrag on a J drive (SSD)….

I normally use Proces Lasso abd if I see the Defrag exe I disable it.

So tomorrow I will try the same flight.

Regarding Proces Lasso and MSFS : I do not let PL start with Windows. After MSFS has loaded into the scenery I start up PL.

I got fooled by PL preventing MSFS from launching, and thought my whole MSFS install was shot, so ended up deleting then reinstalling.  And then...I learned what PL was doing .

Do you find PL has value for MSFS?  I used it in P3D and it def had value there for certain things related to the affinity mask and also I would put certain addon programs on different cores and they would launch quicker and perhaps interfere less w/ P3D.  How does PL help for MSFS if you feel it does?  I can try loading it after launching MSFS.  Also, I did report the problem to the developer a while back but never followed up with him, but just did now and will let you know if he's solved anything.

If the CTD becomes more than a one-time event for you -- then I would start by disabling PL completely.

Instead set affinity via batch files if affinity needs to be set

But if the CTD is just a one-off I don't think I'd be that concerned about it.

MSFS is allowed to use 14 of my 14 cores. That free core and 2 cores that have little load are being used for my cockpit Addons : Prosim + Wideview + WideTraffic + SIOC.

Loafing PL after MSFS has been loaded into the scenery gives no issues here.

For P3D I use batchfiles with affinity set as I want it. Only for MSFS I use PL.

I use batchfiles with MSFS also.

I've been a little leery of PL over the years -- from experience -- as it relates to stability, if troubleshooting that would be the first thing I'd disable.

Good way to ruin an SSD drive is to defrag it.

I think they ported over an old term or tried to make it fit newer technology.  It is a TRIM operation actually which is an optimization routine.  Most, if not all, SSDs have this built into the firmware of the SSD, so why does Windows feel the need do it as well?

This morning I also saw that Rolling Cache was enabled on my server, so I disabled it and deleted the cache.

Then I tried again, but again a CTD on my server about 20 minutes after take off...  :

Yes, reinstalled the Redistributable packages and tried SFC.

The only thing that has changed is updating to WU6.

I now am installing the latest NVDriver as I used the previous one.

@GSalden how's it going?

Have you had any CTDs since your last post in this thread?

And which Hotfix were you talking about? MSFS Hotfix or Nvidia?

Just found your thread after my first six flights (2 CTDs).
After the first CTD, I've updated nvidia driver and now after the second CTD, I've uninstalled ambitious pilots pushback toolbar.

I do have Process Lasso installed on my PC, but I don't know if it's running in the background. Taking a look into this if ambitious pilots pushback toolbar is not the reason for my CTDs.

No CTDs anymore after the HF. I guess it is also because I use Prosim cockpit suite + flightmodel and no panels are visible onscreen.
