I understand the need for increased security in today´s online world...but the requirements of Win11, especially Secure Boot, will effectively make it not suitable for me.

I consider myself fairly computer literate, but even after extensive reading I do not understand what exactly it entails or what steps I need to take to make my hardware/Bios compatible (yes, I run modern hardware that should be capable of Secure Boot).

So..."never change a running system" it is for me 😉

Only way I can put it, we are now at the whim of MS and other OS developers. we dont like you, disconnect, No come back. As I said, if I am forced to WIN 11, Linux here I come even if I do loose some good addons.

What if they stop trusting Linux 😱

Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus

Well, honestly this sounds like my PC could stop booting at any time - because Microsoft screws up with some hardware key validation or because a manufacturer does not provide timely updates to their keys? Kinda like we get these days from time to time because some "certificate" runs out and suddenly you can´t access stuff anymore... I honestly don´t see the advantage for me, here.

The problem is people are far to trusting in them. Silly isnt it. Blindly we follow.

I must admit my trust in Linux isnt much better, there are still "people" putting it together.

And rightly so. But at least

Is a thing.

Microsoft hasnt really done anything for its users benefit for at least a decade, so hardly surprising. If you thought flightsim infighting was bad you should see the storm raging over .net atm, if anything its worth reading to learn all the ways developers can politely scream volumes of expletives at them.

e.g.

non participation is a valid form of protest

Windows 11 has not been offered to me yet. But my problem is that it is free. Why? How? Why would they do this for no money? What's this secure boot thing as Janov has said? The old adage that there's no such thing as a free lunch rings true somehow. I would gladly pay for a genuine upgrade with no catch. But this? I'm suspicious. Does anyone know why they are offering this for free? What's the real price?

The real price is the data you provide to them in real time by using their OS and the lock-in to the Microsoft`s ecosystem. In today`s world this is much more important, than the potential 100$ you would pay for the OS.

How so?

as of series x/s the only substantial difference between pc hardware and xbox hardware is that chip being on. It lets the OS lock the user out of modifying the software by using the tpm chip to encrypt everything.

If you've used msfs on PC you've probably already seen it to some degree with XBOX for PC.
