Do you feel that Asobo was a good choice in making MSFS 2020

I think Asobo is great, and will take us alot further yet.  I hate it when they are attacked and not shown respect.  MSFS is technologically and organisationally complex - Asobo rose to the challenge and continue to do so.  Cheers.

Is this a fact?  The 10 year countdown started on release just last year?  But  Asobo started work on MSFS before it became publicly known. Can someone confirm.

My big concern about buying add-ons is the streaming portion of the sim. The stock market is pretty high now, but if the market and the economy tanked, will Microsoft and Asobo continue maintaining the server data centers for MSFS? I doubt anyone can predict what the future will bring.

Data centers are central to Microsoft’s business. A lot of people think one of the reasons for them coming back was to explore new tech with Azure. I’m fairly certain whatever happens to the economy, a massive tech company can keep the power on for their data centers and continuing to innovate.

We're coming up on almost 2 years since Tech Alpha 1 was released. Who knows when the countdown clock started. As long as they're making money the lights will stay on. If this thing ever becomes unprofitable, all bets are off.

I can see this thread evolving into a variant of the ongoing tedious "MSFS is just a game" discussions. 

The argument seem to be:

1. Microsoft hired Asobo for their expertise in getting the whole MSFS Bing-map/Scenery thing happening
2. By doing so they hired a company with scenery expertise and very limited experience in "study level" flight models and "true aircraft" simulation
3. If they were actually serious about flight-simming as opposed to just making a game, they would have hired <insert preferred company name here>  instead
4. THEREFORE - as they did not hire <insert preferred company name here>  MSFS is just a mere game

Then allow me, (I don't mind being flamed)

PMDG would have us all using our real names, despite that being illegal.

FSLabs would give us service updates "soon" and would have banned half of us from their forums by now. 

And Aerosoft would have cut so many corners all the aircraft would be perfectly round.

ASOBO was a better choice than any high quality P3D Developer.

I agree. But MSFS is not a core business. One can argue that P3D has more relevance to Lockheed in as far as it adds simulation value to their gazillion dollar fighter plane business.  No one knows what MSFS relevance is to MS' cloud business.

I'm glad that there is a version of MSFS for Xbox. I hope that business component succeeds and adds to their gaming franchise.

Were it not for the Xbox, MSFS might as well be compared to a vanity plate one purchases to decorate car license plates. I'm just concerned how add-ons I've purchased so far; and will be purchasing in the future, will function and act without Azure.

One worst case scenario is if MS decides to exit, that at least they can easily spin it off to another company. Spinning it off to Asobo would make sense, since it probably has more at stake in MSFS than MS has now.

Let us be lucky Asobo got this job, now and in future we have the best Flightsim that ever hit the market until yet..

And even gets better with every update, so looks like we have a bright future for this Sim !
