Did I miss something the last 6 months?

Featured Replies

So this (or the coming) week my new computer is finally arriving and... I will be able to fly again in MSFS after not being able to do so for over half a year at least. I am looking forward to it!

First thing I did was to check if a Q400 has been released in the meantime... but bummer... nothing... not even an announcement as far as I can tell. Well, maybe it's time then to buy the AS CRJ after all: hopefully it has matured enough by now (...?).

I also noticed there is nothing new from A2A yet... In fact, it sort of feels like nothing has really happened at all when it comes to interesting add-ons... or did I miss something? I did read MSFS has had some nice updates: performance improvements, more scenery, etc. Maybe someone might bring me up to speed regarding MSFS? I mean... 6 months... I sort of expected to see an almost new sim with loads of additions but I get the feeling not much has happened. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Considering the previous platfoms, addons took years and occasionally we were waiting close to a decade before some developers even made a sound, it's probably a bit naive to expect the world in 6 months. That's almost no time in terms of flight sims.

OK, You are wrong.  Did that help? 🙂

I would go and read the updates in the various World and Sim Updates for starters.  Then you could head over to flightsim.to and take a gander at the thousands of freeware offerings which in some cases far exceed payware offerings we've seen in the past.  You could look at AirlandFS and what is being done with helicopters, you can look at the individual WorkingTitle Mods, check out the FBW A320, Rob Young's masterpieces, the Porter, the DC6 as well as the performance improvements, LOD improvements, SDK improvements or you could assume because the Q400 and A2A haven't released yet "not much" has happened in 6 months... I hate to say it but this feels a bit like another post that is going nowhere.

May I ask how long you waited for A2A in prior sims?  How long did the Q400 take to release?  PMDG?  FSL?    Exactly....  Why would you expect these to be in MSFS in 6 months if it took most of them years to develop for FS9, FSX and P3D?

MSFS is in a great spot right now performance wise especially paired with the image quality it is providing coupled to that performance.  Be patient and AIG, PMDG, Fenix, A2A and I even think FSL will all have offerings for MSFS within then next 6-18 months which would put them around the same release timeline they had with P3D... The big variable is does the performance and IQ have to take a compromise to support them and early indications with FT LGAV and others indicate they may not...

 Exciting times!

TLDR but save your money on the CRJ and Check out FBW' stunning work! It's a great addon and gets continuosly developed and improved.

The gargantuan Bernardinelli-Bernstein comet will strafe Saturn's orbit in 2031. Scientists are stoked.

Better not wait too long to get MSFS …….. lol

It sure did! 😉 I think I was simply hoping for more even though I know 6 months is nothing in flight sim land. It's a bit like being on holiday for three weeks, coming back to work and expecting a lot must have changed while in fact nothing has. 😉 As if time behaves differently when you are in another part of the world... or out of a sim. I have to add that I never really looked at freeware stuff in the past (apart from the Airports of Norway in the old sims): I think it's time to start looking at it now then.

Yeah, well, Airbusses... I loved them in the past but after flying the Q400 (Majestic) nothing beat that hands on kind of flying that really keeps you busy. The plane (and panel) is small and 'simple' enough to get to know it inside out (I never have that feeling with Airbusses and Boeings: too much buttons I can't get to grips with) and it keeps you entertained during the entire flight. But well, since the FBW offering is free I might give it a try before I start spending money. 😉

Sort of LOL! 🙂 When you've been out of the loop for half a year it can be a bit hard to get back into things and half a year seems like a long long time when you are not around.

But well, it seems I'd better do some morereading up myself instead of asking for information here. Sorry for asking. 😉

Ah Grasshopper as I have been reminded recently as well it is not always what you say but how you say it....

Some will look at how you said "not much has happened" as a negative, especially because of a couple of add-ons not being released in 6 months since you left.  Even I read your post with a "hint" of trolling but figured I'd give you a few good alternatives, options and some information as to what has actually happened in the past 6 months because it has actually been quite significant despite not having a few add-ons.

And there-in lies the rub, your post implies because A2A or the Q400 hasn't been released nothing has happened and that can't be farther from the truth, hence some of the responses...

Got it. 😉 I'll choose my words more precisely the next time. 😉

Yep, I have to do the same, a lot of what I say in sarcasm is offset with a facial expression, even on my video calls.  Take the face to face or visual cues away and it's so easy to misconstrue what people are saying.  I use things in jest all the time in real life that is met with less than favorable results in any "typed communication" be it email, social networking or forums.

Me spoken word does not always come across the same as me typen word apparently LOL

A2A have helped Asobo with the P-51 Mustang in the upcoming Reno air racing pack, and help with the L-39 Albatross from the guy that developed a really good one for the other sims (was it Lotus?).  So some excellent developers are starting to get involved with the sim.

We also have the An-2 coming out from the guy who did the brilliant one berfore (ATSimulations ?).

I am also looking forward to the upcoming Aerosoft Twin Otter, and a Quest Kodiak is inbound.

My two purchases recently (the BAe Hawk and PC-6 Porter) are absolutely superb.
