Enjoying the Piper from JustFlight in the meantime. While some companies have been quiet, others have completely upped their game!

Reading this and other MSFS forums over the past year, it is striking how often somebody says that because of some issue they are having (e.g., clouds, trees, a particular aircraft that is not yet available, etc.), the entire MSFS is, to them, a big disappointment -- or in more extreme language, "garbage", "word not allowed", etc. It is as if these folks are wearing blinders and cannot see the big picture -- which is simply that this is an amazing sim and getting more amazing all the time. But that's life in the forums.

Yes you def missed something:  serious growing pains!  But now MSFS has matured enough to be absolutely stellar in terms of the scenery and performance engine and is only getting better by the day.  SU6 showed how quickly many deficiencies would be corrected once the core engine was buff.  Lots more coming including weather enhancement in the hear term.  PMDG is coming it appears somewhat soon as well.  If you really feel the Q400 is required to get rid of that bummer feeling perhaps you could commiserate with the other Q400 diehard, good 'ol Snave, over at Majestic:

I have used the Q400 for a very long time in P3D and I think it's hugely overrated--but I know I'm in a minority.  It's primary claim to fame was it's ease on performance in P3D.  Graphically it was ugly, and even the flight model and especially turbulance modeling was horrid, IMHO of course.

I also noticed there is nothing new from A2A yet... In fact, it sort of feels like nothing has really happened at all when it comes to interesting add-ons... or did I miss something? I did read MSFS has had some nice updates: performance improvements, more scenery, etc. Maybe someone might bring me up to speed regarding MSFS? I mean... 6 months... I sort of expected to see an almost new sim with loads of additions but I get the feeling not much has happened. Please tell me I'm wrong.

A2A has been modeling several variants of the aircraft in the upcoming goty edition.   Mustangs,   I believe.    It was mentioned in an Asobo talk.

Then the CRJ is for you. It gives you exactly that. And you will find some similarities with the Q400.

Personally I enjoyed the CRJ for some time but then switched to the FBW A320 which has improved a lot over the last six months. But that is just a personal preference.

The MSFS main forum can be amusing at times ...

"I bought aircraft xxx from yyy and when you stand on your head and look under the tail the textures are not up to 4k standard and the rivets are in the wrong place, I emailed the head of development about this just yesterday and he still has not personally replied and is clearly ignoring me (a paying customer with rights)  It has been 3 whole days since this rubbish was released and no patch yet, they have clearly abandoned this aircraft already. This aircraft is a total scam and ripoff. This developer should be banned from the marketplace"

Hmmm and they probably did not care if the thing even started or worked properly. Typical MS general forum. To the OP how long did it take to get PMDG, A2A etc. in FSX ? I will wait for your awnser.

You would have enjoyed the argument I got into from the guy who wanted to launch a class action lawsuit over the sim haha.

You know, he got really mad when I pointed out he wouldn't be able to quantify his losses and was better off asking for a refund..

LOL You guys are taking this all way too seriously. ;) After being out of the loop for over half a year I was curious to see what had happened in the meantime. I am not complaining or saying MSFS sucks or whatever. As I said 6 months seems a long time when you are away while it's nothing when you are still around. I simply hoped for something extra, that's all. Something new and exciting COULD have happened. I've been in the flight sim scene for almost 4 decades so I am not an word not allowed newbie and I know how things work. ;)

If you can't see the improvements in the past six months, and you have been simming for over 4 decades ( so I have I), maybe you should find another hobby that will make you happy.

Oh but something new and ultra exciting DID happen!  It wasn't an accident that performance exceeded all expectations (SU5) on a wide variety of platforms including a console, that folks with highest end hardware now have access to those resources, that new enhancements arrived in the form of World Updates for free no less, and a slew of fixes in a variety of nagging issues including night lighting which is absolutely fabulous now (SU6).  PMDG announced they're definitely on their way with the NG3 and already released their DC-10 which is very well received, and an 'impressive' update to weather was referenced sometime in the past 6 months to come, and a slew of fine airports as well, the HD mod for the 787 continues to improve, etc etc etc ;o)
